witch Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 In an hour and 20 mins I finish at this school. I have been here 8 years and indeed started my new life as an IT tech here. I am not really even very sad as it is definitely time to go - but it is a change and that feels very odd. My new job is almost as challenging as this one was 8 years ago (I used to shut myself in the server room and ring my partner, panicking madly, practically every day when I started here). It is an unmanaged system and I am thinking 'AHHHHHH' Help. When I started this job, no one expected anything and as they knew nothing about computers, I was able to stay one (very short) step ahead. But the new job is very different as the head has asked around and is expecting me to hit the ground running....... Which reminds me - Jiser - did you change that password? Please email me with the new one! Am I the first Edugeeker to move to another Edugeeker's job? Anyway - get ready for all the stupid questions in Jan.

Hate to burst the bubble but I've done it before, my job here was one and my new one staring in January is as well. Both jobs were also advertised on here.

I hope it goes OK, but , if it doesn't, I know where to come for help. And....I don't think I have ever been called adorable before..... *welling up*

I finish one of my jobs tomorrow, (despite not having had an acknowledgement to my letter of resignation yet) apparently I'm in the school newsletter though! Did you have any sort of sendoff?
witch Posted December 17, 2008 Author Posted December 17, 2008 I actually didn't feel relief or sad or anything - I know it was the right thing to do. I wasn't mentioned in the newsletter but I did get a bring and share lunch today (quite a big deal as they had to 'unstagger' the lunchtimes) and £45 of M and S vouchers! But to be honest no one really took much notice of me - some of the newer teachers barely know who I am! I'm sorry for the TA who has been given my 6 hours - I know I said that there wasn't much to do but that is from my, hopefully experienced and knowledgable, point of view. Still panicking about the vanilla system I am going to in Jan, and the extra hours, and, and.....well, everything really!

It’s better to have a new challenge to rise too rather than be sat in the doldrums and bored with it all. Thats probably why I change jobs nearly every 12 months

witch Posted December 18, 2008 Author Posted December 18, 2008 The school I have just left is a Schoolcare school - a local co that do management systems. Nothing much to it really, just an overlay over the system - but, and most useful of all, a very helpful tech support line! New school seems a bit of a mish mash to me - and of course with an unmanaged system there are always several ways to do the same thing -and I have to figure out which one they have used.
