  6. Thanks Pottsey, I'm sure they will struggle along for a bit until they find another sucker, I mean candidate, to take the job! It will still be part time, that's the main reason I'm leaving as they couldn't find the budget for a full time post. I think JB said the advert was going in the papers this week.
  7. Thanks everyone, nice to know I'll still be welcome in the forum!!

  11. Hi, scripting is not my thing so this is probably an easy one but I cant find the answer. I'm using a web page to open word, excel, calc etc etc but when I use the following script, some programs open twice and some don't....? This is on the web page: Calculator This is the calc.vbs script: Set objApp = CreateObject("WScript.Shell") objApp.run "calc.exe" Any ideas why when I click once it opens twice? Thank you. Kate

  15. I like your theory outtolunch whatever it 'fell' on it must have gone with a hell of a crack as the dent on the lid is tiny.

  20. Has anyone managed to work out where you set the proxy settings for one of these?
  21. Hmmm I thought using a different PSU wouldnt help, but unfortunately we haven't got, a) another 24 pin PSU or b) any equipment to test the original PSU (I keep asking but it falls on deaf ears). I do have a tester at home but feel that I shouldn't have to start bringing in my own equipment as they probably wouldn't replace it if it went walkabout or was damaged in use. Appreciate all the help though - I'll probably end up telling her to take it to PC World
  22. Hi, tried this but only power supply had availale to try is a 250w 20 pin and the original is a 350w 24 pin. Anyhow nothing different happened so assuming this still isnt the problem
  23. Hi to everyone thats in school in the holidays! Got a member of staffs Dell Dimension 4700 PC in as it wont boot up. (no post beeps either) I've found the Dell service manual that explains about the Diagnostic Lights etc but these don't even come on when I switch it on (just get steady amber power light with I think means a possible graphics failure). I've removed the ram, NIC, graphics card, sata drive, DVD and still nothing. Also took out *lots* of disgusting fluff from the motherboard and heat sink & fan Not sure where to go next apart from tell her its stuffed unless anyone has any other ideas?
  24. Monday 21st last official day but teachers not in as they've wangled it so their last day is Friday Got a weeks overtime to get some jobs done then back on 2nd Sept!
  25. I've now decided to do this instead & transfer over a lot of the rubbish that's on there to the second server we have. There are quite a few bits of software which run from the server so once these are transferred this should hopefully be reduced. The server is only a year old this Summer so the hardware is pretty good - as I only work part time, term time only, a 3rd party took delivery of the new server & installed the main server stuff - I was left to do the rest. I've now promoted our second server (same spec as main DC) to a DC too so at least we have AD on two servers now. It is a bit of a minefield though - some decent training would be nice but we hardly have a budget for hardware nevermind training! I appreciate all the helpful posts on here though - really does help you out of a sticky situation sometimes!
