Hightower Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 And what is the difference between this and actually saying what you mean? Don't follow... What do you mean?
Midget Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 FISH FINGER SANDWICHES! Sweet Zombie Jesus Mauled by Jesus or the very british "Oh MY!" or "Golly!"
tom_newton Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 Expand it to "For Flip's Sake"? Make it obvious that there'll be no cuss-words in there?
strawberry Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 Muahaha! I've now got people's minds thinking about the tv show Geeks are so impressionable (like me...) only untill the next sequence appears on the main cab. green green green green red! :eek2:
bossman Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 @LeMarchand: "Mixed sauna" then if you think it's just hairy sweaty old men who frequent these places (anyway how do you know?) hehe!!! ;)
elsiegee40 Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 I like the Steam Room... it's takes away any hint of bad language. I stiil think that perhaps there is a place for an Anonymous board as on the UK Governors site: The Anonymous Section - UK Governors
GrumbleDook Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 I tend to say "Horlicks!" ... not as a replacement for a similar word beginning with B, but because I am emphasising my wish to be at home, in bed, with a hot drink, snuggled under teh duvet, reading a good book whilst listening to my wife gently sleep ... oh, those wonderful friday evenings where I don't have to worry about dragging myself into work the next day!
ICT_GUY Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I tend to say "Horlicks!" ... not as a replacement for a similar word beginning with B, but because I am emphasising my wish to be at home, in bed, with a hot drink, snuggled under teh duvet, reading a good book whilst listening to my wife gently sleep ... oh, those wonderful friday evenings where I don't have to worry about dragging myself into work the next day! I hate listening to my wife sleeping, its such a deafening cacophony of odd snorts, farts, moans and snores that I can rarely here myself think let alone concentrate on reading a book.
Andie Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I'd be quite happy if we stopped all swearing and renamed FFS. I can't get into Edugeek at work when I most need it from time to time because it gets blocked by council filters due to exceeding a weighted phrase limit - presumably due to bad language. I know we are all adults, and some folk swear as a matter of course, but this is supposed to be a work-related forum.
GrumbleDook Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I think renaming it is the most popular option. We will get back to people by the end of the week, but we are out of prizes so can't run it as a competition.
Zoom7000 Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 My favs so far: 404 - Bad Request The Stress Ball Some other suggestions: Access Denied! Teacher Free Zone! The Back Office! Area 51 Behind the Firewall
K.C.Leblanc Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 How about the Gareth Gates appreciation thread?
mattx Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I personally think renaming it will be a complete waste of time. What difference will it make ?
sparkeh Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I personally think renaming it will be a complete waste of time. What difference will it make ? Well, its just that the very name of the forum engenders the idea that bad language is acceptable. If it was called "Oh poopey pants!" It wouldn't.
Little-Miss Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 When i joined a year ago, the fact it was called FFS! didn't make me believe it was alright to swear. I saw it as what it was, a place to vent..
MkII Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I find the title FFS offensive, and i'm embarrassed by it. Always have been. I've always known what the area is there for, that's quite plain.
Busybub Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Suggestions for a new name? "Abandon hope, all EduGeeks who enter"?
Guest theeldergeek Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Steam room? Byte back? *groan* (for when you feel the chips are down and you want to cache them in) *grooooan* That's actually rather good! FFS is for having your say, so 'biting' back is rather an appropriate name! Motion carried then? Byte Back?
witch Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I like 'byte back' and 'Arrrrghhhhhhhhh!!!!!' But IMHO FFS is still fine
alan-d Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 The Padded Cell - where no one can hear you scream!!! yea yea ok - I'm going!
Midget Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Can I also suggest having it hidden from guests? atm everyone can see it is there, so the spys have a reason to sign up and look in that forum. Whereas if they didn't even know it was there it would give people who post inflammatory statements a fighting chance of it not being seen before they re-read their post and remove any identifying information. and going totally OT. When did witch move to Wales?.... and become a mod? I obviously haven't been paying full attention.
tech_guy Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Suggestions for a new name? The IT Office or The Server Room perhaps? Sycophancy?
