Yes, everyone knows what it means but surely that's the point - it doesn't have to be spelled out in profanity or whatever. If everyone stuck to the same system: ie no obviously rude words (asterisks just don't do it) then I can't see a problem

The next step is people just using one asterisk in a word... using the word 'muppet' etc. If we're making a clean break - we can't even give the vague impression that we condone it.
