CR2032 batteries...

Going to make myself look like an idiot (well even more than usual), but even the simple things make me doubt myself!

 

I've never really cared much about brand, but I've just used my last one and want to order some more.

 

Looking on Amazon I can get 20 cheap no-name ones for about £5 or 4 Duracell ones for about the same...

 

Who goes cheap, who goes brand name?

I go brand name on these. I have never found a cheap one that's lasted a sensible amount of time.

Although slightly off topic as a different battery (CR-2025). I had to replace my KeyFob battery and the remote does not like Duracell. Managed to find out that the official battery might be a Philips one and guess what it worked straight away, seem to remember that I had this issue before and the dealer sorted it and told me that the fob does not like Duracell

Go with branded ones too as I'd rather fit and forget not fit and refit and refit.

 

I did a semi-scientific-back-of-fag-packet test on Dewalt batteries a while back as the higher ups wanted copies to save money and basically the crux of it was whatever percentage cheaper the battery is, the battery percentage will be that much less.

 

So a copy battery that cost 30% less actually ran out of juice 30% faster.

 

So basically there's no difference, you either pay more and get more or you pay less and get less.

Thing is on Amazon even the Duracell has a load of reviews saying they got a dud/fake batch... who can you trust these days?!

 

Also see some Duracell as being 'baby-safe' I wonder if the coating may play some part in them not working?

That's interesting. Our CO detector ran out of battery at the weekend. I replaced them with Duracell but it was having none of it (I know the batteries are ok as I tested them). Replaced them with some cheap own brand ones from Morrisons and it worked straight away.

GP and energizer are normally good. I've never really tested it though.

 

Duracell if its from a proper shop - but I think there is too much temptation for people to fake these.

 

I think the babysafe just means its a pain to remove from the packaging.

 

Its probably more important to match the battery type (long life, lithium, alkaline etc) than the manufacturer. I'll stick to pro-cells (Duracell) for radio-mics out of habit.

Just call me Mr Cheap! Never had a problem with any coin cell cheapos I've bought from Amazon or eBay. I don't always get the cheapest by unit price as I don't get through them that quickly, so it can be a false economy having 9 out of 10 slowly exceeding their use-by date in the battery box. Tend to get two to four at a time unless I know that more are needed. Also buy the Kodak alkaline AA/AAA/9v ones from the store that should really change its name from Poundland.

Just to make everyone aware, if you have an issue with Duracell Batteries it is down to the Baby-Safe side. They apply a coating which makes the battery taste unpleasant so children dont swallow them but it is a thin layer that affects many products and does cause some items to refuse them. I found if you give them a quick wipe with some Sticky stuff remover or equivalent they tend to work. It is a very frustrating thing but if you have some that dont work its worth a try. I've had this issue with an Airtag and with some Hue remotes at home.

Always bought GP CR2032 batteries from CPC. Approx. 48p + VAT each - never had an issue with them.

You didn't test a Duracell 'Baby-Secure" one then?

 

Pretty sure you'd be able to 'taste the difference' with that one...

I buy mine in packs of 10 from a local battery supplier, I don't pay much for my pack's of ten but cannot remember as its only now and again.

 

Be worth checking your local battery supplier, might find it works out cheaper. I now get all my AA/AAA stuff from them as well as my big truck batteries, don't enterain the idea of anywhere else!

 

If you don't have anyone local give them a shout, they may ship out.

Another +1 for CPC, plus they have a good range - it's interesting the difference in capacity (mAh) between manufacturers. I have found that no-names sometimes leak and corrode, but it's amazing how long those little cells last. I replaced the one on our boiler programmer last year which was a Panasonic dated 2002!

I tend to buy GP in bulk from our local security suppliers - they undercut pretty much everyone!
