Badaz52 Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 Hi Everyone, I just wondered what everyone is using for their iPad mananagement? we have been using Meraki for years as we have had less than 100 devices but they have retired this licensing method now and the cost of a full license has prevented us from adding more iPads to our organisation for years. I've had some pricing for the full license for Meraki and it isn't too bad but I just wondered if there are cheaper/better alternatives out there. Thank you.
PotNoodleTech Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 It's not better, but you can get away with the free version of Mosyle - running that for about 80 ipads and it works. Not perfect. But works. if I was rolling out more than that say 1:1 I'd probably want to look at a proper MDM which sadly means license costs etc.
DalekSec Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 Mosyle, if you have more money than sense then Jamf
ITGuyNW Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 I'm the same boat and its either Mosyle or Intune (if you have it included in your licencing)
Squelch Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 I use Intune for MDM and it does everything I need it to (which admittedly isn't that much).
Tefters Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 JamF but I'm 1300 iPads [emoji34] so not shortcutting or wasting time. 1
Skylark56 Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 Does anyone know of one that utilises both iPad as well as Android phone management? We had both iPads and Android phones for Senior Leadership staff as from what I can see Mosyle only supports iOS devices currently. Just wondered if anyone had something that supported Android devices too?
KarlGoddard Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 Intune - we manage all our Android phones via Intune and will be moving our iPads from Meraki to Intune over the Summer break 2

Just wondered if anyone had something that supported Android devices too? We use Miradore = Free 14-day trial of Miradore Premium plan - Miradore I don't use it for Android, Just iPad and MAC devices, but it does support Android and Windows devices - but as I said, never used with Android so don't know to what level it supports them https://www.miradore.com/knowledge/android/android-device-management/#supported_features_by_management_method
2ilent8cho Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 JAMF Pro we have 2200 iPads managed by it in our Trust.
Olliedawg Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 Mosyle free does the job, however it is limited compared to the paid version. Bear in mind you can only manage one type of device with the free version (either iOS or MacOS)
Oaktech Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 We've migrated away from Meraki free, Apple Configurator & Mosyle free recently. One school uses Intune for IOS and my other 2 uses Google MDM alongside our android fleet, it's only very basic restrictions/customisations/app installs for IOS as they are all staff devices. There are discussions around moving all our devices to Intune from Google, but nobody quite has the stomach for it. It's hundreds and hundreds of android devices between the class sets, special devices, kiosks, and wider school community devices!
howartp Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 We've had Meraki for staff and Airwatch for students. Just moved to Jamf School (last summer) for new students and will be continuing with it - far cheaper than Airwatch. Probably move staff when their devices are next renewed in 12/18 months time.
Fox Posted February 16, 2024 Posted February 16, 2024 Sophos (we use that for for end-point) for non-shared and Jamf for shared iPads. Both do a good job in my opinion.
mbl Posted February 16, 2024 Posted February 16, 2024 Intune for managing all iPads on multiple sites
jmak Posted February 16, 2024 Posted February 16, 2024 Mosyle, if you have more money than sense then JamfIf you've bought iPads, the cost of Jamf is a rounding error. £6/iPad per year on a £350 device Other cheaper alternatives are available, but I've seen lots of money wasted and Jamf isn't on my list of bad purchases.

Has it gone up? it's always been £5 for us (£1 isn't much difference )
hallb15 Posted February 21, 2024 Posted February 21, 2024 Did anyone receive any communication from Meraki to say they were stopping their free offering?
PotNoodleTech Posted February 21, 2024 Posted February 21, 2024 Did anyone receive any communication from Meraki to say they were stopping their free offering? I thought they stopped their free version a couple of years ago? 1
JMSJ Posted February 21, 2024 Posted February 21, 2024 I'd go for Jamf school. I've seen lots of school use it and like it as well as a trust with over 5000 devices and it works perfectly fine and gives the control and separation they want for the different locations.
LeMarchand Posted February 21, 2024 Posted February 21, 2024 Tried Lightspeed and didn't like it. Currently on Mosyle free with 60 iPads, but will push the school to pay if the rumours of more pads are true as bulk operations are very limited.
hallb15 Posted February 21, 2024 Posted February 21, 2024 I thought they stopped their free version a couple of years ago? I think they did for new accounts but if you already had an account you could continue using it without any restrictions (other than the 100 devices.) Now you can only manage existing devices, not add new ones. Which is typical as we've just bought new iPads for every teacher... I've signed up for a moysle trial so I'll see how it compares to Meraki before deciding which, if any, to pay for. 1

Well I'm using free Mosyle as it's ..... free.... but I've been told by people who have used both that Meraki is better. It doesn't surprise me, mosyle is a bit clunky and poorly laid out.
