[ipad] Best Value MDM?

I am used to supporting schools using Meraki MDM and have also used Lightspeed.

 

However what other "cost effective" solutions are out there

 

1) Meraki MDM - I am comfortable with the UI - however I assume this is expensive for non LGfL/NGfL schools

2) Lightspeed - I have used in one school and find its user interface frustrating - i like the theory of the hierarchical nature of the interface - reminiscent of OUs in AD but navigating is a pain - I assume this was bought for the school as cheap?

3) JAMF - used once in a school to migrat them from JAMF to Meraki as they were moving to an LGfL connection

4) SimpleMDM - never used

 

Would be for potentially 30+ ipads to start with

Another to throw in the mix - Mosyle (We use this at my school, albeit we only have 10 iPads currently, which are all shared devices.) Can remotely install apps, lock down the device with a long list of restrictions, customise the home screen..

 

They offer a free version but it is fairly limited : barely any remote tools.

I've used Meraki, Lightspeed and Jamf from those lists, and Jamf is the one I always return to. It's incredibly easy to set up so you can get up and running with 30 devices for probably around £200 if you're happy to do the set up yourself if you're familiar enough with building up the groups, DEP profiles and dynamic groups etc. All doable in an afternoon.

Mosyle is another option, I've used both Mosyle and Jamf. I prefer Jamf but Mosyle isn't far behind, there may also still be a free version.

£5 per device for both, Mosyle used to have 3 year deal which brings the price down.

Another thing to note with the free version, you can't manage both Mac's and iPads. It's one or the other

Currently setting up a jamf tenant for my Trust, moving away from Lightspeed. As someone else mentioned above, once you know your way around it you can set up a working tenant in a day...

Throwing Intune into the ring. It is basic compared to Jamf, but the cost in nothing if you have an existing OVS-ES or EES agreement for M365 A3. We use it across 1200 iPads and it does the job.

I had a quote from a reseller not long ago and it came out at £5 per device. Think it was even less if you have it over 3 years rather than 1.

Are you direct with Jamf or a reseller?

My licenses were with Sync and now KRCS both £5 per device, only moved to the latter as the former didn't come close on iPad pricing.

For Jamf Cloud Pro we are paying £6.37 ex vat per iOS license.

 

Our initial quote with Jigsaw was quite high but we also checked quoting with Academia and it came in quit a bit cheaper.

You can do all the above on free, and AFAICT you can have unlimited devices in EDU. The main restriction I have come up against is that some things can only be run on an individual basis on free.

im with JTRS at the minute, was with XMA for 2-3 years prior until they did exactly what im getting to now my renewals are at 1 rate and my new additions are at 6.50.

We have 80+ iPads and use the free Mosyle.

+1 for InTune, though you need to have EES licences or add the InTune licence to OVS-ES, but the cost isn't great as it's charged by user not devices. And it avoids running another platform if you're already using it for Windows devices.

Jamf have never increased the price...resellers have to buy Jamf Pro in dollars so the sterling exchange rate can affect what your reseller uses to calculate your price, if their overheads for this increase they will pass this onto you.

Mosyle is ok... but it lacks a few features if you are using the free version. Like bulk operations etc. You have to use carts/trolleys (if I recall) to create different groups of devices. For the most part though, I think it's a good MDM.

 

I have used Meraki, Intune, Jamf, and Mosyle. Jamf comes out on top... every time.
