Chaton Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 anyone else having problems turning on the HP 245 G8's we have 41 of them and they wont always turn on, I have to keep holding down the power button which sometimes works. We've found that the laptop (not the battery) needs to be discharged or "power reset" from time to time. Not sure if it's an issue with the laptop itself or the environment that it's being used in, but following HP's short list seems to do the trick for us more often than not. Turn off the computer, and then unplug the power cord. Disconnect any peripheral devices, and then remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station. Remove the battery from the computer. With the battery and power cord unplugged, press and hold the Power button for approximately 15 seconds. After you drain the capacitors, re-insert the battery, and then plug in the power cord. Leave peripheral devices disconnected. Turn on the computer. (https://support.hp.com/sg-en/document/ish_1997208-1551050-16) Though I suppose this does boil down to holding down the power button with extra steps.
Cat_Jam148 Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 Received our batch of iPads today - ordered them on 24th November I expected them to be delivered after Christmas, must have been one of the early birds.
atcoates Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 Ipads are now back in stock for anyone that needs them. 3
Andycat Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 The ipads we received were 9th gen 64gb too, better than the last lot we got from them.
StevieM Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 Thanks, @atcoates. I checked earlier but there were none available. I've just ordered our allocation now. The ipads we received were 9th gen 64gb too, better than the last lot we got from them. Yep, that's what's on offer at the moment. Better than the rest of our in-school devices.
Koldov Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 Ipads are now back in stock for anyone that needs them. Ordered... Thank you!
Koldov Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 Ordered... Thank you! And delivered today! Can't see anything waiting for ASM/DEP though and no 'devices pending notification email from Apple'... Does anyone know if they are a bit behind at the moment?
LeMarchand Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 And delivered today! Can't see anything waiting for ASM/DEP though and no 'devices pending notification email from Apple'... Does anyone know if they are a bit behind at the moment? Did you order them or another member of staff? I normally have to beg for retroactive addition to ASM as the head never fills in the ID...
Koldov Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 Well, good point... no, I didn't order them it was our Business Manager (and it wouldn't be the first time he hasn't filled that bit in)... However, on the delivery advice note it does state our 'DFEAppleID'. What I can't see on there is who the reseller is....

Koldov Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 (edited) We currently have: COMPUTACENTER - 892F050 INSIGHT - 3960F70 XMA - 354BF80 EDIT: Because I'd mixed up the numbers, but anyway I've found the following on the delivery note now :COK: DFE8:APPLE IPAD 10.2 354BF80 XM not very obvious but that part is covered at least... SimonL Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 Failed DFE supplied Geobook laptops. We have three that have failed (displays packed up) and looking at this thread it appears that many here have had similar problems. Does anyone know whether the schools have any (implicit or explicit) continuing responsibility to repair/replace DFE supplied kit ? I would have thought not, but then the DFE did expect the schools to gather these in, reset them and hand them back out again.
Boredguy Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 When you say display has packed up, is it booting at all? I've had some where I've needed to undo all the screws on the bottom (including 2 under the rear rubber feet) and just disconnect the battery for a second before they will work. If the kit was provided to your school directly then you are responsible. Some you can try getting fixed under warranty, however at one point I'm sure GeoBooks said they couldn't do anything since there was no replacement parts available in their chain. We've several units sat doing nothing as the screen has been smashed and we've not yet worried about trying to source replacement screens to adapt them to fit like some others here have done
SimonL Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 Thanks. They will boot and work with an external monitor, so assume the backlight has failed. The devices were provided to the school, who then decided which pupils should receive them. So far, only a few have been returned to be reset as per the DFE reset instructions, but it has cost the school time and money and it looks as if they may now have to source replacements.
enjay Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 Thanks. They will boot and work with an external monitor, so assume the backlight has failed. Just check it isn't the brightness. Seriously. We have some laptops here which you can turn down so much it is almost impossible to tell the screen is actually still on. We only realised when turning the lights off at the end of the day!
kennysarmy Posted December 17, 2021 Posted December 17, 2021 Our latest batch of 16 laptops came about a week ago - no sign of any cases or pouches - I'm guessing that's for the school to buy.
LeMarchand Posted December 17, 2021 Posted December 17, 2021 (edited) They're normally available to order on the same page as the laptops (for laptops) - I think you're on your own for iPads. Edit: Of the current 3 offerings, only the Dynabook appears to have any sort of case. Edited December 17, 2021 by LeMarchand
StevieM Posted December 17, 2021 Posted December 17, 2021 The slip pouches for the iPads arrived a couple days later, although they're not going to provide much protection anyway.
Koldov Posted December 17, 2021 Posted December 17, 2021 Yeah we got those, we put the iPads and chargers in them to send home with the children (after we put the iPads into 'proper' cases)...
kennysarmy Posted December 17, 2021 Posted December 17, 2021 Just turned on some of our Lenovo 300e Netbook (2nd Gen) (Type 81M9) which came recently They all say the wrong date and time. I've joined to our Guest WiFi and Set Time automatically fails. Time zone is London - but time set is 15 hours advance! Also I cannot uninstall Mcafee AV so we can put on Sophos Not impressed.
DrCheese Posted December 17, 2021 Posted December 17, 2021 Just flatten them with a clean image, I never bother with the vendor image, even if we put them on intune (The reset stuff still leaves on vendor junk) 2
