msi_school Posted June 3, 2020 Posted June 3, 2020 What are your plans when you receive these windows laptops, will you be putting an image on them or leaving them as they are? I am leaning towards our basic image because it has a built in VPN and the pupil data will be securely backed up but I know I am going to be pressured to get them turned round quickly.

IF we ever get the invite to register etc, then I'm thinking image too, with Direct Access. We're getting very few routers compared to Laptops.

DrCheese Posted June 3, 2020 Posted June 3, 2020 I'm in two minds If I leave them set with the DFE setup I don't have to do anything, which will be the quickest way to get them out right now - But then I need them back in October to reset them/put on our intune & web filtering setup. Also considering the DFE stuff talks about using "School IT as first port of call" really we need access to support these remotely. If I reset them and dump onto my intune setup, then it'll take longer to get them out & I have to fully support them. I'm not 100% setup in intune yet (I've got some test devices on it) so I'm a bit reluctant. But then I don't have to worry about pulling them back in.

We'll re-image them, so we can get other curriculum software onto them. It only takes a a few hours, and if the students have waited this long, what's another day? That said, we've already given the students laptops, so they're okay on that front. As for how to get them to the students, at this rate the students will be back to school before we have their laptops, so we can just give them out in person! 1

I hope that isn't going to be the same across the board... they're making it clear that support will be down to the school IT departments yet basically stopping them from being managed properly by them? Under any other circumstances I'd be sending them back and telling them to mug someone else off!

We are just on the phone to them now to see if they will provide the admin passwords. They do specifically state this is if you wish to manage the devices yourself.
Tester2000 Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 We've logged a ticket via phone with them this morning for this exact same item, either Windows admin credentials and/or BIOS admin passwords, with them stating a 24 hour turn around time frame. It seems bizarre that these details were not shared with the schools via the email address IT/senior leadership at schools have used to register for devices.

Now I have to wait for an email saying I can order them, that's right isn't it? I can see devices when I log in which looks like I can add to the basket - does this mean I can just go ahead?

Are these laptops expected back at any point to send back to Government? or is it up to the family to look after it and if it breaks, that's it?
