Businesses have every right to refuse a customer for not doing something they require, outside of the things protected by the law.

 

They have the right to refuse, but "the customer is always right".

 

My years in retail made me as annoyed with "customers" as I am now with "teachers".*

 

I remember one incident when there was a bomb scare, and we had to move everyone to the back of the shop, rope off the front and get people to exit through the rear door as the alleged bomb was in the shop opposite. One chap didn't see why he should have to exit via the back door as it was an inconvenience and started to stick his leg over the rope. It was quite satisfying to tell him that the front doors were locked.

Two thirds of UK adults have now had two doses, one of the highest rates in the world at this point. Over 87% have had first. Vaccine rates are dropping though, so working through the remainder is going to require even more effort and energy.

My sons year group has had a positive test, but so far he is not deemed to be a close contact. 3 school days left, but with a couple nights away booked later next week, it's a nervous time hoping there isn't a call for him to isolate.

My son's school has had six members of staff and 3 children test positive. They now have six classes out of eighteen self-isolating because they're all close contacts. One of the classes that's closed is in the same year as my son, but luckily for him, his class is still open. The school had been lucky up to this point as they hadn't had any bubble closures until the beginning of this month. Now they've closed off a third of the damned school and by the sounds of it, this is far from a unique situation.

 

I'm sorry, completely eliminating restrictions next week is complete insanity. The country is clearly nowhere near ready for it and we're going to end up like the Dutch where they've had to re-introduce restrictions.

My local butchers have told me that their staff will not be wearing masks from next week and that it will be optional for customers, so I will be shopping some where else.

Yep exactly the conversation I was having with my Mrs. She said she thinks a lot of people will still carry on wearing masks and being careful regardless. Looking at the amount of people locally that didn't even wear a mask when it was mandatory I thought that would be doubtful.

 

I just seriously don't get what the big deal is with wearing a mask. Talking to people from other countries generally it seems to be very much a British/American thing that wearing a mask to protect yourself and others is seen as some massive impingement on personal liberty. Absolutely boggles my mind.

I have a ticket for a festival in August, you will need a negative LFT to gain access to the site but then are free to move around without masks.

I've decided to sell my ticket as I really don't think being in a field with 15,000 people most not bothering to wear masks is a good idea!

I'm not prepared to take the risk.

Selling now might be a smart idea as there's also still the possibility of it being called off due to rising cases/deaths. We have tickets for a small festival in mid-August and a socially-distanced outdoor theatre a week later, but we may well just take the hit (neither were expensive) and not go. I'm also supposed to be helping out at a festival at the end of August, but starting to worry about potential health risks not just to myself, but family members. One is currently in their second week in surgical high care and another is about to pop out a baby.

My wife and I were watching "The Book of Eli" and we got to a bit where a trap had been laid for unwary travellers. My wife looked to me and said: "That's a really sad outlook. You'd think that, with the apocalypse and everything, people would gang together and try and make things better, not worse."

Apparently Sainsbury and Tesco are carrying on with the mask restrictions after Monday. Whether this is actually enforced is another question. Our local Tesco never enforces the "sole shopper" rule, and last week there was a maskless couple shopping*. Still better than our local Sainsbury, which I've been steering clear of as it's full of those sort of people who don't understand why they should wait a few seconds whilst you look at a bay as they're considerably more important than you.

 

*They may have had medical conditions, but looked more like Covid Deniers to me.

Not entirely sure what our school is doing for next week.. So far kids have had to wear masks even in lessons because our area kinda of screwed with Delta, but there's been no communication at all regarding the moronically-dubbed 'freedom day'.

Bad luck - surely that should be in the annoying thread.

 

My annoying thing: that's six days. Isolation is 10 days after contact with a confirmed case. That means it's taken them 4 days from when the person you were in contact with had a positive test. Presumably (probably a mistake to presume anything, but anyway) once the test result is entered in the system, the association between that result and all of the contacts is effectively instantaneous so it's taking four days to get tests processed. In the mean time all of their contacts are walking around being potentially infectious. At that rate I suspect test and trace is still probably not having much effect reducing transmission.

 

Anyway, I really hope it's a false alarm [emoji1696]

I'm not sure that's right, it means it's 4 days since they were in contact with someone who has gone on to have a test (that has been positive) - likely because they've become symptomatic. PCR results seem to be coming back within 24h still as far as we've seen here.

 

So it's no indication it's taking 4 days for a test to be processed as far as I can see?
