The new appointment didn't work for me--someone in the office was already off--so rang up to rearrange and said I could do the Monday that week (instead of the Thursday) only to be told they "can't bring it forward". But like you just did by 4 weeks and that's still 4 weeks longer between doses than the manufacturer's recommendation [ATTACH=CONFIG]61886[/ATTACH] So anyway, my new appointment is for the Monday after the rescheduled Thursday. And now, due to supplies of the AZ jab, they've brought the appointment forward another week to the Monday I first asked for anyway. Wheeeee let's all make it up as we go along and pretend it's Science! (I don't mind, happy to be vaccinated a week earlier, just... bloody daft)

This short article from bmj touches on some of both. Chuck in constantly evolving variants and there is no panacea.

Relieved that the PCR test has confirmed that it isn’t covid… even though I was convinced it was just a cold… and also that I seem to be improving now and can currently breathe through one nostril at least.

It's always worth double-checking - I was convinced I didn't have COVID up until the txt arrived that told me I'd tested positive. 1
aicrd Posted June 11, 2021 Posted June 11, 2021 I (thankfully) haven't tested postitive yet, but been PCR tested a few times. Its always a bit unnerving when you get the text from the NHS, especially on my apple watch as it always cuts off the result!

It's important to understand the difference between the quoted R rate for the current circumstances and the R0 rate (pronounced R-naught). The R0 rate is what would be seen without any mitigating actions or other community protection - so the rate for measles being quoted of 12 to 18 is based on no action. If we lockdown for measles as we have with Covid, we'd see a much lower transmission level. It's pretty clear the Delta variant is much more infectious and it's possible it is more severe too. Without the vaccine levels we have in the UK, we'd be in a very precarious position. For countries with low levels of vaccination (much of the globe), it is a very worrying time. Unfortunately I can see nothing other than a delay to full unlocking from June 21st - based or data not dates. 2 jabs of the current vaccine appear to give strongly protection against the Delta variant. However, we have all head the mRNA vaccines could be adapted quickly to variants. I'd be keen to hear about progress on this front soon.

I've just done my 1st proper NHS "Home Test Kit" test (LOTS of ONS study and LFTs for work) Got the negative text as expected, but find you HAVE TO ENTER IT INTO THE APP YOURSELF!!! What the fresh h3lls has Serco been doing with their £billions? WHY is this not integrated YET??

Guess it depends if you request the test via the app (which then knows to assign the details to your random code), or if you ordered it via another method in which case it has no idea who you are as the app is anonymous remember.
Duranis Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 My oldest (24) had his first jab at the weekend. He has OCD and was very fixated on not having the Astrazeneca (despite knowing that wasn't going to happen) so was a pretty stressful time for him unfortunately. Thankfully he doesn't seem to have had any actual reaction so far which is a massive relief and will make it easier for him to deal with. My daughter came back from nursery with a stinking cold a couple of weeks ago. Streaming nose, really bad cough, fever. Tests came back negative but then I picked it up last week. All the Covid symptoms except for a fever for me, completely laid me out for 4 days and I basically slept the whole time. Also had negative test results but both me and the Mrs were still worried for a bit as it hit me so hard. Still got a cough and ache a bit but otherwise ok now. Add in that the whole time me and my daughter were coughing our lungs up constantly my poor son had a rubbish time with his OCD Been a bad couple of weeks.

This vaccine is a different technological approach to Pfizer and AZ, being protein based. It's a well established technology used for Hep-B, meningococcal disease and pneumococcal diseases. One potential advantage is it is more suited to those with compromised immune systems. 1

I'm currently sufferring from the Delta varient. My whole family has tested positive. It's very rough indeed and I definitely feel as though I have both covid and hay fever. Got all of the covid symptoms, but I have all of my usual hay fever symptoms too. The headaches, immense tiredness and totally crazy sinus issues are probably the worst. Suffice to say, covid has smashed me for sure!
