It appears that our Grandson (4 and SEN) is having to isolate

 

Turned out that someone in his pre-school tested positive last weekend but still came into work Monday and Tuesday!!!

Hence whole place has had to close

for some reason his sister and Mum were still OK to go to a Baby Shower this afternoon

 

I'm not sure why this is OK - but 'lots of people' are saying it is OK

I have a son at home remote learning due to a positive bubble case and it has impacted my other sons activity too. Not allowed in the cricket team or football and my wife wasn't allowed in to see a dentist - regardless of both kids testing negative twice so far on LFT in the last week. If we fully re-open in July, because hospitalisations and deaths remain low, but cases continue to exponential grow, this is going to be happening a lot more - I think the pressure on a rethink on strategy in schools is inevitable. Having us all able to legally mix fully, but with huge numbers isolated repeatedly doesn't quite appear to be where we want to be heading. Some tough decisions ahead...

Don't worry, as cases double every 2 weeks and we're not doing anything to change that it'll only be 4x as bad by the time it's the summer holidays

There seems to be quite a distance between what is officially recommended and what organisations expect and at the minute there's a lot of inconsistency.

 

A friend had a notification from the app that they needed to isolate. They checked with test and trace and were told that their partner (cohabiting) doesn't need to isolate unless either of them test positive. On one level that makes sense - if every contact of a contact had to isolate, we'd effectively end up in lockdown pretty quickly. However, if you're living with someone and the risk is high enough to justify one person isolating, it's difficult to see that the other person is much lower risk to their colleagues.

 

Once most people are vaccinated, I think it'll probably make sense for contacts just to test every day. But unless children are vaccinated, that probably doesn't work for schools...

Yep, but you can imagine the conversation at work:

 

Worker: I'm not coming in today because I'm isolating

 

Boss: Fine. Send me a copy of the instruction from test and trace and you'll get sick pay

 

Worker: It's not me it's my partner

 

Boss: Unless you've been instructed to isolate, you won't get paid, company policy

 

Worker: ok, I'll come in then

 

Boss: don't even think about it. If your partner's got it then it's almost certain you'll get it too.

Working from home is way cheaper for the business, not renting office space will save millions

Yet according to friends who work in London, companies aren't selling off/letting go of their office space, which suggests they plan a move back to having people on-site. And I can't believe they wouldn't pass up the opportunity to save money if they didn't see some theoretical benefit.

Can't see businesses in London paying London Weighting to people working from home ?

Javid seems to be FAR more certain that the 19th July WILL be the day covid restriction wind down

 

Handcock (checks spelling and spaces) was more 'data not dates'

 

I was feeling better with the data based stuff

 

government people saying dates are certian seems worrying

 

I like data and science

...give them the same vaccine protection as wider society, then.

 

I think we were planning on this being the case anyway--gods know it will make our life easier when we're not constantly demonstrating Windows+P because some people still have not got the dual-screen thing right in their heads, even months later--but along with the end of masking last month and the proposed end of self-isolation for close contacts, this is a disaster waiting to happen, frankly. We have had fully-vaccinated staff off ill still; this isn't over by a long shot :(

Most people would disagree. Children are subject to all sorts of restrictions that are in place to keep them safe.

Thanks I actually really needed to hear this. It seems that everyone is just going "yeah everything is normal now" when it is so far from it. Around the school for example staff are very lax about mask wearing now and when I have been driving through town I see pubs and restaurants packed just like they were pre-covid. Even people I know have basically gone back to normal life now, only chucking on a mask when they are really forced too.

 

Starting to make my feel like I'm the crazy one for still thinking about the danger and doing everything I can to try and minimise the risk to myself, my family and the people I come in contact with.
