As said, jumped the gun. Angling is good to go though happily (so far), not many better ways to sit and chill by a lake/riverside :) - source https://anglingtrust.net/covid-19/ - interestingly they say further guidance will hit on Wednesday which will no doubt be part of a package which may clarify other similar activities.

I still haven't seen tennis called out specifically in a authoritative way, unlikely golf here - it's actually a very odd list with what is and what is not included. However, I agree it's likely tennis will be included in the closure. Golf and tennis got raised several time in today's debate in parliament, so it no doubt will get reviewed between now and the law passing. I did get a rod license over summer in case I took the kids out on holiday. I don't think it would provide much exercise though! For completeness, here is the current LTA statement.

Interesting. They call out tennis and golf. I see golf called out in gov guidance, but as noted earlier, still yet to see this being the case for tennis - it's not looking too hopeful though. I wonder how things stand where we have a court at a public park. It's no where near as pleasant a court at my club, but it's a MUGA, so presumably playing my son or wife would be within the rules. Still, I still have walking, biking (and angling brrrr!!!) as options.

One on one would be fine, if in a public place - maybe! Which is why I guess there is frustration around socially distanced outdoor exercises being blocked. I know the decision makers have a very tough job, so it is a matter of finding a balance and no matter the decision, some will not be pleased. I can only imagine for the likes of tennis and golf, there is a concern that allowing those activities a) leads to general mixing beyond the activity or b) it leads to endless other sporting bodies looking to follow suit.

Could also be seen as "upper class" pursuits. Maybe they worked out that excluding horse racing and grouse murdering last time wasn't popular?

The law hasn't yet passed through the HoC but my understanding is that that game of football would certainly be against the guidance and is very likely to be against the law. I may be wrong however.

Would certainly seem to be a breach of the rules as they stand. We're awaiting confirmation that touch rugby training will be suspended as the governing body are trying to get more details from DCMS

That thought had occurred to me! I wouldn't say I'm upper class! Whilst I live in Surrey, I was born in Essex and birth history stays for life :)

On top of all this - there has been an outbreak of Bird Flu down south somewhere

 

and - apparently - a chicken farm (not free range from the sound of it - so could be contained) has been found to have a big outbreak - and it is not far from here

 

They are trying to determine if the 2 are connected but it looks like a different strain

 

no signs of crossing over to humans so far

 

the farm involved is on the other side of the Mersey (Frodsham) so Mrs mikeprice has asked me to stay on this side for a while - which gets rid of my favourite route - including the interesting new version which includes a steep hill - up and down (reached over 30mph on the downhill the other day before I chickened out and braked!!!!)

Yes, an outbreak in Kent. Both sets of chickens culled. No north/south divide for the chickens.

but it was very egg-citing

 

anyway - by way of avoiding cold ponds etc

 

it has been announced that Liverpool is going to be the first in an attempt at mass testing

everyone who lives in - or works in - Liverpool will be offered a test

 

what is confusing is what they mean by Liverpool

 

do they mean Liverpool - the city area

or Merseyside - as people get confused and say Liverpool but it turns out to the the county of Merseyside

or the Liverpool City Regions - which also include Halton - which is us - but is a separate county - but we are also part of Cheshire - which is another county

 

It gets confusing round here

 

 

anyway - looks like it is just the actual city - but I had to look at every newspaper site I could find several time during yesterday before I found out

even they I am basing this on Joe Anderson (Mayor of Liverpool - the city) not Steve Rotherham (Mayor of Liverpool City Region) that is making announcements

I am very glad I have left education

I'd like to see someone try and tell me that I could work in a school with 350 children who don't do social distancing and yet I am not allowed to go home and cuddle my grandson
