3s-gtech Posted March 20, 2020 Posted March 20, 2020 Find your group. I’m a grumpy, scratchy sort at work but when I’m with my training group I’m a totally different person. Talking to them tonight has cheered me up a bit. There really is a niche for everyone, and people who share your interests. We may only be able to talk on a forum or online for now but my god does it help.
LeMarchand Posted March 20, 2020 Posted March 20, 2020 I did it, but then sent them a blunt email saying “stop sending me this stuff out of hours, or it won’t get done.” After the laptop shenanigans mentioned somewhere else here, I actually sent SMT an email stating that The Magic Laptop Tree had been shaken until it was bare. 1

Except for the ones they think you keep in a cupboard under your desk of course! let us know when they ask for another one 1
Popular Post hardtailstar Posted March 20, 2020 Popular Post Posted March 20, 2020 My brain was absolutely fried after work today. I'm sure next week will be a rush too with all the students who cant get on the websites we pay into yet they have been 'using' it for years. Had my own disco in my office at home tonight to wind down! Turns out sending weird videos of me dancing made other people laugh!.... 5

caffrey Posted March 21, 2020 Posted March 21, 2020 Now the majority of us are done, does anyone feel a sense of guilt that they could've done more ? Pushed the school more ? Just did more ? I am in school for the odd few days, and in on Monday voluntarily for any last minute ideas and fixes and I plan on being available as much as possible from home.

I'm not done, pretty much business as usual - if not busier - for the foreseeable future.
LeMarchand Posted March 21, 2020 Posted March 21, 2020 Just been to the next town along to get cat drugs. Normally Deadsville but incredibly busy today. People queueing to get into the grocery.
mikeprice Posted March 21, 2020 Posted March 21, 2020 Now the majority of us are done, does anyone feel a sense of guilt that they could've done more ? Pushed the school more ? Just did more ? I've been working with computers since 1981 and I seldom do a job and feel that it is totally complete could have have tested it more? what ever caused that thingy that happened and just went away? was that the best way of going - would doing it $otherway have been better - or would that have just taken longer and ended up the same way was it really what they needed AT the end of the day you can only do what is best at the time and get it working in the time you have you have done what you can - anyone even slightly like me will always see the extra possibilities/alternatives/problems etc etc etc - it is kinda our job so just look at where you started and where you finished and teh time you had and you will see how much you have moved forward Now move on and remember - you can see all the problems/weaknesses with the choice you made - but it is impossible to know is the other choices would have ended up worse because they never happened - it could have been a massive disaster I can provide a load of stories about things I have done over the years and still worry about - but I seem to be getting a reputation so I'll leave them for now 4
3s-gtech Posted March 21, 2020 Posted March 21, 2020 I just ventured out in the car, and there are people everywhere - market on in town, shops busy, traffic. I didn’t make an essential journey - going to the builders merchants, but I was conscious of distancing, handwashing etc - but if we carry on like this, we’ll be locked down much more.
mikeprice Posted March 21, 2020 Posted March 21, 2020 I think the attitude was summed up by a someone on the telly this morning She was interviewed in a pub last night - with quite a crowd of people her words - roughly Well no-one was really taking it seriously - but if they're closing the pubs then I guess we'll have to now Hmm - you would have thought someone would have told her about it - put something on the news or make an announcement maybe dunno why they haven't though of that

I was working at home because my daughter gets the flu vaccine and staff in school had shown symptoms, but even though I spent my whole Wednesday off responding to emails (until 8 at night) I still feel bad for leaving the others in my office to the frenzy through the second part of the week, even though I have very good reason to stay away. 1
rad Posted March 21, 2020 Posted March 21, 2020 Our laptop tree is quite extensive... it’s nearly bare. I intend to go in as much as I can to assist the students working from home and any staff working from their classrooms. What I won’t do, is walk around the school. I will isolate in the office.
mikeprice Posted March 21, 2020 Posted March 21, 2020 Right - expert help required - so I thought of you lot Step son works for the NHS - he is currently working in the education dept of the hospital but has been moved to 6 days a week - front line ICU and theatres - which is where he worked until a few months ago he has 2 kids - 1 at school - ages 7 1 in pre-school and nursery - categorised a 'vulnerable' due to development delay and has education plan the school have said that the kids cannot come in Monday to Wednesday as potentially their Mum could look after them - Thu and Fri they cn come in - but the little one mornings only for the pre-school - but as this means he has to be picked up at noon the the older has to leave with him As far as I have seen this is wrong - if ONE parent is front line then the kids should be able to attend school 5 days - is that what other school are doing?? We are especially concerned about the little one as he has developed massively since he started at school and has other kids to look to for examples - it seemed like kids like him were specifically to be provided for. Thanks Mike
LeMarchand Posted March 21, 2020 Posted March 21, 2020 Right - expert help required - so I thought of you lot IANAE, but AFAICT my schools aren't questioning parents on their shift patterns! The feeling round these parts is that the more vulnerable and those with difficulties are better off in the school for various reasons. After the trip to get the cat's drugs, we popped into the local Sainsbury's for a few bits and bobs. Although the town centre was very quiet (and a lot of shops had opted to close) JS was packed. Got most of what we needed, but the place was stripped of the essentials like loo roll, pasta and... wine.
mikeprice Posted March 21, 2020 Posted March 21, 2020 .. wine. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I am still in work for the next two weeks until the Easter holiday, probably work from home after that. Get all my documentation up to date in peace!

Due to the unfolding situation with Coronavirus (COVID-19), we’re very sad to have to let you know we’ll be temporarily closing John Lewis shops from the end of the day on Monday 23 March. For 155 years, our mission has been to serve you – and rest assured, that will continue. And, many of our shop Partners will be joining their colleagues at Waitrose, as we play our part to help feed the nation during this time. We may be closing our shop doors, but you can still shop with us online. Take care of yourselves, your loved ones and your community, and we look forward to welcoming you back into our shops when the time is right. 6Foot2 Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 Link: National Trust to close parks from midnight due to coronavirus [iTV News, 21st March 2020, 9:09pm] The National Trust has announced that it will close its parks and gardens from midnight on Saturday, to help “restrict the spread of the coronavirus”. The decision has been taken ahead of Mother’s Day, which the Trust predicts will attract more people to its parks despite Government advice on social distancing. Houses, cafes and shops belonging to the charity were closed earlier this week. But following Boris Johnson’s announcement on Friday that all pubs, clubs and restaurants would be closed, the Trust has ramped up precautions...

TwistedHelixis Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 Just had a go at my best friend for going out while his children are at home with terrible cough and very high temperature. Not sure we will still be friends after this as he just doesn't care. :0(
