Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun Posted November 14, 2019 Posted November 14, 2019 Has anyone applied the Autumn SIMS upgrade yet? Are there any issues to be aware of? (I've heard rumors of issues with NOVA-T but nothing concrete and no-one seems to know what the supposed issues are)

3s-gtech Posted November 14, 2019 Posted November 14, 2019 Mine’s scheduled for tonight. Not heard anything about issues - other than user s turning off half of the PCs I’m hopeful it’ll be ready to go first thing!
cullingsh Posted November 14, 2019 Posted November 14, 2019 We have done two of our schools now. No issues reported yet. Personally I don't like the change of SIMS icon or some of the icons within the program - looks more retro now.

Meldrew Posted November 15, 2019 Posted November 15, 2019 We've discovered that where users have previously pinned the icon to their task bar, it no longer works due to the icon change. Have to remove the pinned icon, then re-pin to fix.
Sylv3r Posted November 15, 2019 Posted November 15, 2019 I've heard of a few schools mention they now have issues printing registers.
synaesthesia Posted November 15, 2019 Posted November 15, 2019 There are known issues apparently but cant remember what they were; our data manager spoke to Capita a couple of days ago for something else and asked if we should apply it. "Not at the moment" was the answer they got.
Chockster Posted November 15, 2019 Posted November 15, 2019 We're going to do our usual thing with the Autumn release - waiting until the teaching staff are playing Christmas films and snoozing their way through lessons stuffed with mince pies. They'll never notice if it breaks. 3
3s-gtech Posted November 15, 2019 Posted November 15, 2019 Deployment seemed to go okay. No one has reported any issues with the update applying (is that a first?), but that may be because some of them haven't bothered to load SIMS yet! New logo is plain white with SIMS across the middle in black - near enough a flip of the old one. 1
markwilfan Posted November 15, 2019 Posted November 15, 2019 No issues reported from us either. 2.30 update is truly the way to go for Sims updates
DrBeaker Posted November 15, 2019 Posted November 15, 2019 ...New logo is plain white with SIMS across the middle in black - near enough a flip of the old one. Was this in the release notes at all? The confusion this is going to cause with staff all due to an icon.
Popular Post EdTech-Tom Posted November 18, 2019 Popular Post Posted November 18, 2019 Was this in the release notes at all? The confusion this is going to cause with staff all due to an icon. I don't want to think how many IT calls will be logged across the country due to a different icon 6
supportman Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 Will wait for Christmas on this one I think.
DrBeaker Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 I don't want to think how many IT calls will be logged across the country due to a different icon I remember in one job, when Google changed the compose window in Gmail and the calls we got about that were unbelievable!
markwilfan Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 Will wait for Christmas on this one I think.I was told we needed to do this for the workforce census
vyperz Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 Applied it last night and yes - there are issues printing timetables I believe. The icon change was to make it gender-neutral - I sh*t you not. Our DM was told this at the recent SIMS 8 demo. 2
sefton Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 We have an issue with some staff unable to print registers.
kennysarmy Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 Think I'll be holding off on the u/g for a while. Can't wait to be on Bromcom or some similar cloud based MIS ! 3
supportman Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 I was told we needed to do this for the workforce census We just needed a data patch for that, not the full release. Sheridan Posted November 20, 2019 Posted November 20, 2019 We have updated and also have the print registers issue, which capita have acknowledged is a problem, but as yet haven't offered a solution!
ITGURU Posted November 20, 2019 Posted November 20, 2019 Think I'll be holding off on the u/g for a while. Can't wait to be on Bromcom or some similar cloud based MIS ! I'm not looking forward to hosted SIMS..if using the desktop client it must be dog slow working on a remote 20gb database over the internet connection. We already provide remote SIMS via RemoteAPP which works as fast as local.
3s-gtech Posted November 20, 2019 Posted November 20, 2019 MSSQL is surprisingly good over (and designed for) an internet connection, but unfortunately I think the current implementation of hosted SIMS is not as straightforward as just that. We run it over a 100Mb WAN connection with decent results. Not tried it over more hops though.
Sylv3r Posted November 20, 2019 Posted November 20, 2019 What is the problem? After the SIMS Autumn release, when a user is in the Take Register, when the Print button is clicked you are met with the following error: "Error - Unable to load or process layout file. It must be a valid XSL file." Are any other reports impacted with the same bug? Yes, the same error in the code will impact the following reports in these ways: Error when printing Focus | Attendance / Lesson Monitor | Take Register Focus | Dinner Money | Record Pupil Meals User-defined fields do not appear Routines | Attendance / Lesson Monitor | Edit Reason for Change If user-defined fields are being used columns will display in the wrong order Focus | Attendance / Lesson Monitor | Deal with Missing Marks Focus | Attendance / Lesson Monitor | Deal with Unexplained Absences Crashes when opening a date range Routines | Lesson Monitor | Resolve Conflicting Lesson Marks How are we going to fix this issue? We have created PRB22999 and linked all customer cases to this. As of today a fix has been developed and we are now in the process of testing this fix to ensure that it resolves the identified issues and does not impact other areas of SIMS. This fix will be in the form of a Workstation Fix as this is not fixable via a database patch, its an update to some of the application code and files. When will the fix be available? As of the tine of this update, we are not sure exactly when the fix will be test complete and we can release, but please subscribe to this notification for any updates. 2

A workstation fix that will require exclusive use of SIMS to deploy?
