Hi,

Not sure if this is the correct forum.

We have a number of old Promethean boards that need new pens - Activpen ACTIVPEN3-1 The ones with an orange band around them.

They seem to be discontinued everywhere, does anybody know of any suppliers? We cannot justify replacing boards just because of pens.

Cheers

Hi if you update the firmware you can use the Activ Arena pens.

Promethean can send across the info if you log a call.

Does the board then support the old pens *and* the new ones, or just the new ones?

(also have bomb-proof ancient boards kicking around)

Sorry to jump on this post but I'm trying to source activipen3 pens and the activ-univ-psu. Promethean have advised that both are no longer available so I was hoping someone may have some old ones hanging around that I could purchase?

thanks

@Smee

I have one grey pen with an orange band. I have what I think is a promethean psu. See attached pic. I presume it works - no idea where it came from but I am hoping that it was saved because it works but I can't be sure

Bumping the thread because we've got some Activboards that can't be upgraded to support the new pens and my supply is running low.

I'm after surplus working ActivPen 3's (straight dark grey ones with the orange band). There's none in the channel that I can find and slim pickings on ebay. Has anyone got some they're willing to sell?

Hi,

The previous IT Technician at my school always said that our Promethean ActiveBoard had never been interactive. So we have no powrr cable or pens for our PRM-AB0ARDD60. We don't have any money to replace the board and I'd really like to get this board interactive for the first time. I contacted Promothean but ofcourse it's all discontinued now, but they gave me the part number for the power adapter ACTIV-UNIV-PSU does anyone have this power adapter and any pens going with the oranage band round them. Attached is the serial cable we have but no power adapter to go in TIA.

I *may* have a spare pen and PSU. I have a feeling that someone has lost the pen in their class so if so I’ll need to keep that. These old serial boards still work with Windows 10x64, unlike similar aged Smartboards.

PM me tomorrow to remind me.

Thank you - I'll PM you tomorrow, I'm willing to pay I just can't seem to buy them anywhere.

Sorry to bump this thread yet again but our Primary school are in need of some of the ACTIVPEN3-1's for their ancient boards.

Does anyone still have any going spare or know where they are still available to purchase?

Hi,

We are now using a laptop to connect to the board - the laptop does not have a serial port slot on the laptop. Does anyone know if there is any adapter where I can plug the serial lead into an adapter ton then plug into my laptop with a USB for something? I've seen https://www.amazon.co.uk/GANA-Converter-Routers-Equipped-Supporting/dp/B075HB1ZLM?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_1 but don't want to buy it if it won't work. Would be gratful for any support on this.

Thanks

Not used that sort of thing with a board, but used to use one with an OMR reader. The drivers were a bit tricky when we went to W8, but one of the answers says that one works with W10x64.

I may have some of the Pens you are looking for if you send me a list I can take a look and send some out - they would only go in the bin after time

Happy to help

@DSAGEY, if you've got an ActivBoard 2, you can plug a regular USB lead into the board controller on the back instead of using the serial connection. You can leave the serial connection then just plugged into the power supply.

Update: sorry just noticed somebody has mentioned this already!

Just for info the Activ Arena 50 pens are compatible with the ActivBoard 2’s, the boards require a firmware update but the pens work after that.

I had not seen that, thank you that's really useful to know.

Don't tell management though eh, I'm using the line that parts are no longer available to get upgrades ;)
