Sonic007 Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 So the dreaded word "Ofsted Inspection" is flying round the school and the teachers are ̶p̶a̶n̶i̶c̶k̶i̶n̶g̶ preparing for the day they show up. From a Network Manager's point of view what would you say your responsabilities are during and preparing for Ofsted? I've made sure our policies and DFE related content is all updated on our website, tidied up a few links, checked our security and backup, etc. I'm guessing they may ask about GDPR compliance. Anything else maybe? Thankyou.

Mako Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 No responsibilities. If they want a login, they can come find me. If they haven't bothered to ask ahead of time I'm not going to prepare for it. In my experience they don't even bother with support staff. 2

localzuk Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 My team and I have been through about 10 inspections over the years. I have never been asked anything beyond "what's the wireless key?". Things like keeping the website up to date are not our responsibility now here - we have a trust level admin who does it. 1
bossman Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 Our first Ofsted I had the IT guy grill me for approximately 45 mins..... Mainly policies: Passwords.... Security.... AUPs.... Encryption.... Also asked about future proofing... what the future direction of the school was from an IT perspective.... @webman was with me then... We actually got a mention in the schools very first Ofsted report.... We got an Outstanding in the report.... Since then we've had another 4 inspections....not one of them required anything from me except a wireless key as others have mentioned.... IT seems to me that Ofsted already know just how fantastic all IT guys are in Education and don't bother now as they feel as professionals we are above reproach unlike some other professionals in schools... Just saying like..... 4

AJWhite1970 Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 A school near us had one recently, the IT team never saw the inspectors (inspectors even came in with a 4G dongle for their own laptops so no need for wifi key) The school got grilled on safeguarding, lesson plans and policies and escaped with "Good" at the end of it 1

kylewilliamson Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 I'd suggest getting some skeletons, and be hiding them in a closest in a hurry and get caught by OFSTED doing it.

3s-gtech Posted February 2, 2019 Posted February 2, 2019 Guest key. Our internal key is only for use on our devices and is only known by the techs. An allocated guest key is created for these jobs, on a different subnet that doesn’t need a proxy via a captive portal.
mikeprice Posted February 2, 2019 Posted February 2, 2019 I have met some techs who have been asked about filtering - one inspector asked the tech to log a computer in as a pupil (test account) - he started a web browser and typed in 'porn' 'naked women' and a couple of other things so it may be worth just making sure you have simple details of the filtering to hand
Jamman960 Posted February 2, 2019 Posted February 2, 2019 I’ve been through 2 full inspections where I’ve not been asked for anything other than WiFi access and an mfd As I’m mentioned in our esafety policy I ended up being interviewed during our recent compliance inspection, they only asked what filter we used and how we handled esafety All were isi inspections.
