Discrimination, bigotry, racism, xenophobia, schools broadband vs lightspeed, sims vs bromcom. And we, as a species when we work together are capable of such great things. With the help of an exceptional yet eccentric leader (who still may or may not be a super-villain) the SpaceX team, full of every sort of human being under the sun has put a Tesla in space, synchronously landed a pair of reusable rockets and have no doubt given this generation something to aspire to. Youngsters will start wanting to be spacemen again. (that's spaceman as in human, just to make a point regarding equality). Some of us, and some of our parents will remember the moon landing as the defining moment in space travel, science and technology. How many of us are going to forget the spectacle of Starman, sitting in his cherry red Tesla, with Earth in the background. And although we can't hear it, David Bowie in the background. 6

Should be interesting to see. "Tesla: Even in the event of a meteor storm, our cars keep driving".

His plans for Mars are interesting, and have a chance of coming into fruition in the next decade. And the very fact that he wants to build a base on the Moon called Moonbase Alpha makes me happy. He certainly knows how to play to my inner geek. Iain M Banks, Douglas Adams, Space 1999, Bowie... His exceptions choice of names, music and references makes me happy 1
