What have you found in a computer?

So I take out a computer from a classroom as it wasn't booting and symptoms like a dead HDD.

 

Opened up the case and found...

 

Empty carton of orange juice

Three calculators

Crisp packet

Cookie packet

Pencils

Highlighter

 

No damage to the case and all screws done up tight.

We've got a room of similar sized towers where the kids have smashed through the drive bay covers... half expecting them to all be a similar state to that inside

Some of our Dell systems report into our inventory as being lunchbox form factor. I hope this isn't what that means.

There was no damage to the case!

 

I can only think that they used a screw driver and took off the side panel!

Never found that much stuff before, it's usually pens or pencils shoved through the bay covers.

I've taken to cable tying the cases shut anyway as the students like to unplug the harddrives all the time.

The only "in-the-case" finds I've made are more of a "what have you NOT found in the case", one room we kept losing sticks of RAM and HDDs, ended up sticking a padlock on each case (they were Dell Optiplex towers so had the loop on the "open door" catch to put a padlock).

 

For things such as the general rubbish it's been stuffed in the gaps behind the fixed desks where cabling/airflow is meant to be. Once found a 3 year old sandwich with what I suspect may have once been a slice of tomato on it (after three years it was shrivelled and black).

A strip of carpet in one of ours.

 

Annoyingly no RAM in one as a student managed to get their hand in where the optical drive would normally be and remove 2 strips of RAM. Unfortunately they also managed to break two capacitors of the motherboard at the same time.

in no particular order: Mars Bar, folded up Homework Essay, Worm and I do not mean the virus type!!, smelly sports sock, numerous pens and pencils .................... etc etc

Nobody has mentioned cash yet. Our DVD drives are, apparently, small change receptacles. A while ago I took one out of a machine and asked the technicials to guess how much might be in this particular one. My guess was closest at 13 p (15 p actual)

 

The guess was more luck than judgement, but I made a big show of shaking the drive, listening to the sound while I picked a number that I hoped would be correct but really had no idea about.

Found - lunch rubbish including sandwich crusts, pc was working but had a graphics issue that was sorted withou the need to open the case... but I did. No signs of entry

 

Lost - processor and RAM, left behind the MB, fan, graphics card and HDD. No clue why or who but had not worked for 3 months (based on last user login)

big wedges of playdough pushed through the rear vents and into fan making loads of little pellets inside. Ive also found rubbers and random bolts in optical drives.

When I was working at Maplins though we once had a customer bring in a pc for repair. when we opened it up we found a dorment wasp nest inside.

We had the same problem! the issue was all the PC's were facing the teacher instead of around the room really.

 

I remember getting our German work experience chap to hacksaw up a few old PC cases into neat little squares so we could physically bolt them to the cases (covering the open bays) which had had the drive bay covers smashed in. (Once we did this - no problem; though it was a bit "sledgehammer vs nut" )

Quite the opposite, once found a computer with nothing inside, one of the little darlings had taken the Motherboard, CPU, RAM and HDD. They kindly left the cumbersome case and PSU, which was nice of them.
