ADMaster Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 Its a small world, systemax was my go to supplier about 5 years ago, It went down hill when my account manager jumped ship. I still have a few of their PCs in service. The big brands trying to cut out their resellers has happened here too. I had two companies contact me directly after getting a quote through a reseller.
speckytecky Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 Only trouble I find with Hills is once they have your address they bombard you with cataloges! I'd mention my present superb supplier to who my former Misco account manager moved but I'm still furious that someone on Edugeek gave me a neg rep and reported a post to the Mods as I'd posted a hyperlink in a reply to a company that doesn't advertise to the forum, was that REALLY necessary I wonder? if you need av/pc leads give hills components a shout
Trapper Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 I stopped dealing with MISCO when Phil Endicott left.

Guessing that's either CP Ltd (now Haptic) or AMC?
speckytecky Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 Nay, it's Higate and they don't add a delivery charge on ours either. They never, ever bombard us with either pamphlets nor e-mails and our superb account manager responds anytime of the day or even evening if we seek a quote advice or information. Prices are rarely beaten by other suppliers, goods when ordered often arrive the next day. Outstandingly brilliant service. Guessing that's either CP Ltd (now Haptic) or AMC?
Tefters Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 Actually shedding a tear for this, they were hands down the best supplier we've dealt with. 5% cheaper than anyone else majority of the time and free delivery, simply email account manager part numbers and quantity, quote within 20 mins, order on door step next day. No cold calling. Gonna be hard to find a replacement for them to meet the standards/pricing.

Always surprises us how many people fled Misco to start up or work for another local company. No bad thing really, as Misco continued to be good for us and these other companies are nearly always as good if not better, so win-win
GuyJD Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 Nay, it's Higate and they don't add a delivery charge on ours either. Funnily enough my contact at Higate was my contact as Misco before he moved, doesn't give me free delivery though, wait til I speak to him about that. No cold calling.I'll give them that I never did get a "Quick catch up call" from Misco
Theblacksheep Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 Never had a good experience (3-5 years ago) with them and not used them since because of it.
gumbygaz Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 In the middle of doing a 6th form Chromebook leasing scheme with them... had half of the Chromebooks delivered... Hoping the leasing company still has the money so can switch to a new supplier for the rest! Misco been great, was wondering yesterday morning though why I'd not heard from our account manager....
bald_pig Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 Interesting to see how varied the comments are here, some being offered free delivery and seemingly better prices than others etc... I'm just interested in seeing where the stock ends up, hopefully it gets flogged quietly enough that some bargains can be had! 1
DJ-1701 Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 Interesting to see how varied the comments are here, some being offered free delivery and seemingly better prices than others etc... Quite. I was thinking that, hadn't seen any good prices for a while there.
mgs1990 Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 I stopped dealing with MISCO when Phil Endicott left. I was taking to Phil 10 days ago via email so he must have left and come back at some point? Phil was a great account manager, very straight talking and didn't make excuses. Gutted that misco has gone they were always quite fair on pricing for me.
mikeprice Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 Hmmm I think I see now what some of teh problems were with my account Things were fine until the account manager changed - the new one always seemed to 'have to' add delivery on - but never included it on the quote A salesman that I talked to at BETT a few years ago said delivery charges shouldn't be necessary except on very small orders - but account manager denied that I think it all eneded up being down to which salesman you got looking after your account silly really - as I would have ordered much more stuff from them if the delivery charges hadn't caused me so much hassle (off ice manager moaning about prices not matching etc etc) still - sad to see them go
woodham Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 sad to see them (well my acount manager really) go Carl was very good to us
DavR Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 Sad to see this, our account manager Mark Lee always came through for us. Not without their faults, but we always got a decent enough price. I was at their Expo show in Battersea just last Thursday setting up a whole bunch of new deals! Mandatory £12 delivery did stop us ordering small items from them though, that was a silly decision, they needed to grade their delivery costs. They sold us eight touchscreens for classrooms just this summer and managed the whole install for us, I wonder who holds the warranty for those works now?
DavR Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 Also, who would people recommend as their "bits and bobs" supplier now? I used to use Stuff UK, but I just find their website really clunky if I'm searching for things.
NewFormz Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 Such a shame, I always had great service from my account manager (Alun) and always got good prices.
difinity Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 Also, who would people recommend as their "bits and bobs" supplier now? I used to use Stuff UK, but I just find their website really clunky if I'm searching for things. Have you tried CPC UK | Electronic Components | Electronic Parts ? Free delivery on orders over £5 and they will shower you with catalogues just like Misco. I guess it depends on what bits and bobs you require. 1
Rob_D Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 Also, who would people recommend as their "bits and bobs" supplier now? I moved over to Softcat for that sort of thing a while back. The e-cat portal is great for "bits and bobs" shopping.
DavR Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 I moved over to Softcat for that sort of thing a while back. The e-cat portal is great for "bits and bobs" shopping. Oh really? I've been boycotting Softcat because their sales calls were just so pervasive. I asked them to stop calling and they won't, I'm having nothing to do with them.

Same here, they have been relentlessly calling since the Summer; I lost my patience this week and politely told them get lost as they will never get my business with this sort of approach.

They do bang on a bit, but I've had a couple of bargains of late where I'm pretty sure they felt they had to honour prices on items that someone should've updated the pricing on. That said, they're not my first port of call.
DavR Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 Is it pure coincidence do you think that, during this conversation, I've received a cold email from a new supplier called Bluepoint? I wonder....
Joanne Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 Bluepoint contacted me after I went to IP Expo. Got a price on a server from them, but check their website. Looks well sketchy.
