Interesting, thanks for highlighting this. We've been struggling with a couple schools - increased RAM allocation to see if that helped and wondered why there's been suddenly a spike SIMS demands but of course NextGen! Why are we still with SIMS... sigh..... I'll have a look at that auto cleanup as well thanks @fraserr100

sims How to Prevent SIMS Next Gen Default Timetables
gumbygaz replied to EFIRMIN's topic in MIS Systems
I've just set our schools redirects to No? I've assumed this has disabled the feature with no switch over date..... Unless I'm mistaken? I don't mind them putting in links to NextGen but forcing the staff over seems a bit of a nightmare to be honest. I'll have Staff wanting to view a timetable in Sims7 navigate to the student be 1 click from seeing the timetable to it actually launching NextGen, signing into that, then having to research for the student again. Need to get off this system! -
We're having issues as well, I don't think it's linked (unless they've made some other changes) I'm interested you've got a setup with wonde write back. That wasn't offered as an option to us? We had a school who had sampeople working, then to merge with our new Trust instance. I had to install HRACL2 program (replace the SAMPeople HR Assist program) Since then it just doesn't work. The HR Assist seems to be setup ok, log files show it's talking with SAMPeople. But nothing is appearing in SIMS? When absence logged on sampeople, we get no errors but nothing appearing in Cover. Sampeople tell us to speak to our SIMS support team, they can't see anything wrong and say it's a sampeople issue? We've been told our NI Numbers in sims have hyphens and sampeople doesn't so to change sims (you can't!) so going round in circles at the moment.

Sorry only just saw this notification @armadillo Yes all going well still, Aspira Cloud were great from all aspects. We've not needed them from a support point of view after, all ticking along and easier now to support all the schools. Certainly a number of challenges to prepare for, Global Address book, machines (and mobile phones) hanging onto the old tenancy details. You'll go slightly mad trying to remove the onmicrosoft.com e-mail address that will pop up after migration. But the actual copy of mailboxes, onedrives etc was fairly painless and the switchover well communicated and plenty of meetings with the team to make sure your ready for the switch.

That's great to hear, we're really impressed with the trial currently. Thanks for the quick response, good to hear it's working in an education settings.

Dragging up an old thread sorry - Just wondering how you're still getting on with SuperOps? We went with Goto Resolve, and having no end of issues with it. So looking at alternative solutions. We love the idea of Remote software, Helpdesk and asset management all built into 1 product - so curious if you've stuck with it and still doing what you want from it.

We spoke to Adrian at AspiraCloud (Microsoft 365 Cloud Solutions) and he setup our central Tenant for us initally, we then worked with them for all the migrations of the schools. Recommend them, obviously cost for that aspect . However, AspiraCloud we really helpful I'd imagine they'd point you in a right direction either way.

I'm looking at doing exactly the same, the unlimited storage and 7 year retention seems to make sense for us now. Simplifies the whole backup solution, I'll use the old backup server as the onsite mirror copy
-
Yep exactly the same for me, it's good they tested this before switching over! I found to use the search is the only way to find things but that's a touch unreliable also.
-
Yep, same thing at a number of our schools too.

We're still having problems. ESS remoted on Friday to get a copy of the errors and sims database but have been silent since. Still having the issues, edulink reports "Sims Critical: Requests are taking too long to process" - Very frustrating!
-
Yeah will do! Cheers though. I've e-mailed Wonde too if its sync times/delays causing it.

Humm, we're getting this issue but been told that patch has been withdrawn? "Unfortunately there is no updated patch for 30113, however please see attached KB guide for further assistance An application fault has occurred. Please print or save the following message and contact your support advisor. Fault Code : 1775-5441-5000 (and other codes) Transaction (process IDxx) was deadlocked on locked resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction. : System.Data.SqlException" This error is not specific to any routine in SIMS as it could occur anywhere in the software. Workaround This error indicates that two or more users or processes (for instance 3rd party data syncs) are attempting to obtain exclusive access to the same database table or resource at the same time but are unable to obtain exclusive access to it because the other process is preventing it. When this happens one of the users/processes will be selected as the deadlock "victim" and will be locked out of updating the table in order to prevent a conflict from occurring. This user/process is then terminated and rolled back, releasing the resource and allowing the other process involved in the deadlock to continue. Due to the nature of this error this issue is typically transient and will clear shortly after the message is received. As such, it is advised that the affected user wait a short period of time for the other database transaction to complete before re-attempting the process. After the other process has completed the user should be able to complete the task as expected. So... just ignore the issue and try again? How come we've only recently started getting this error....

We've used https://www.computerdisposalexperts.com/ for the past few collections, been really good. Can't fault them.

Not done this process, but could you use the free tool from Salamander software: https://www.salamandersoft.co.uk/free-utilities/ and use the photo exporter? They come out as a JPG

Sims slow load excruciating across three different schools
gumbygaz replied to johnpd's topic in MIS Systems
We've been pulling our hair out with this issue since yesterday..rebooted switches/SIMS server etc!! Didn't even think about Senso. What's ironic, we even have a troubleshooting section on our whiteboard with Senso as the first check! haha .. That's solved the problem for us! Thanks for that, What a pain! -

Screen mirroring for visually impaired student
gumbygaz replied to WannabrewUK's topic in How do you do....it?
We do it the same as 3s-gtech - Have a VI Team that all staff are members of. All powerpoints/homework shared in Subject channels. But they can screen share to the student during the lesson or given the powerpoint to pinch/zoom etc. Works well tbh -
We just have the cheap and cheerful Motorola XT180 ones - on the whole the do the job. The odd battery issue and then a weigh up to replace the rechargeable battery or get new radio. Just bought some of the new range from Motorola, https://www.radio-solutions.co.uk/motorola-walkie-talkie-xt185-quad-pack.html

Ok thanks, we would like to get them to use the app for everything so one communication route but having them e-mail teachers/head etc will just get messy. We'll go down the shared mailbox route and disable the other communication channels on the app. Too much good about the app not to press ahead. Thanks, just wanted to make sure we weren't missing a trick.

Morning & HNY, Just a query to those Edulink users, we're trialling edulink and all very impressed so far. However, the one feature I'm surprised that is missing is how do parents message the school. I can see they can message teachers/HOY/Headteacher or reply to a message we've sent out but sometimes Parents just want to do a general query e.g, let us know they're dropping of PE Kit - Spoken to edulink and they say it isn't a feature. Anybody got any cunning work arounds or do you just tell parents to e-mail/call in? Gareth

I had the same issue a couple days ago, thankfully I had a machine with an old version of SIMS still on which had the GenerateSIMSConfigFile.exe file in it. So copied it into the new SIMS folder and it worked. If you can't find it, I can zip and send over for you if you want. Assume it's just not part of SIMS install anymore?

Thanks for that @_techie_ been scratching our heads at why our intune has been failing, and yep Senso was the cause... Didn't even think that would affect it, but stopped the senso service and everything syncing normally. Cheers
