Triple Chocolate all day!
-
The teachers told us that it didn't work them at home either - unless they've changed something the last couple days. I'll have another look.

Cheers all. We've got about 15 staff asking for it :/ - The head has just informed us that the school laptops are for teaching & learning and since AQA don't support school devices it's unfortunate they can't use them for the marking and basically told them to use home devices. I think they may have e-mailed him all a bit too much about it! So looks like we're back to what we were trying to say at the beginning, good few hours wasted trying to sort it. I do wish I knew what was blocking it, suspect it's the redirected profiles breaking it....

At least it's not just me then! I'll let you know if we here anything

Morning, We've got about a dozen teachers asking for us to install e-marker2 (the AQA Exam Marker Software). It's a little web app program which after a bit of fun we've installed it and it runs. However, as soon as they click onto the password field it comes up with a network error. This does this even on a machine which I've added as an exception in Smoothwall so it should be totally unfiltered. I can't find any documentation regarding firewall rules etc, We've tried it on a non-domain joined laptop at home and it worked..... We were under the impression (and they've been told by AQA) that it shouldn't be run on a School devices. However, we're under a bit of pressure from SLT to get this to work because it's good CPD for the teaching staff.. I've had one of the teachers call the support line (we don't have access to this) and she was told it's because it's a school device on a school network. So she's asked what we need to do to allow it, and awaiting 3rd line tech support to call her back. Are we missing something obvious, has anybody else get it to work?? Is there something programmed in the software that's stopping it, like detecting if domain joined? Thanks in advance!

SIMS/ESS told us that we'd be getting Sims NextGen (Basically, just website for doing registers I think, not the RDP client in the cloud solution) in April....... Just curious if anybody had seen, or got this yet? It's not something that would help in the decision to stay or leave SIMS as it doesn't seem much of a game changer, I'm just interested to see if there are updates actually happening.

Second the HP comment, we had no end of reliability issues with the HP devices unfortunately. Moving to Xerox ones shortly via iTech who given us very good price - hoping they're more reliable.

Bett 2022 - enter our biggest competition EVER!
gumbygaz replied to VeryPC's topic in Our Advertisers
Woah, impressive machine! Gutted I can't get to BETT this year, but chucking my hat in the ring anyway! Cheers (Hopefully my son won't steal it from me if I won! lol) -
Senso.cloud alternatives - Had enough
gumbygaz replied to TheRobins's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Yes, I am really hoping that the new year will bring a better Senso. I was really surprised that with all this outage (which really impacted our ability to monitor/safeguard the students - Had almost a week unmonitored!) there hasn't really been an apology from the head office etc regarding it. Only been with them a year, and it's not been as amazing as I hoped, got 2 more years contract - and I pushed for Senso because of all the good reviews I'd seen. Just really hope 2022 goes well and the new update works! -
Ok cheers, so I think installing the Lite version was our undoing. We'll start again with the full Pi OS Cheers @Deakuk
-
@Deanuk Just wondering, I've given this to our Apprentice as a fun little project and he's got it up and running monitoring a couple devices via the browser on his PC. We're just wondering, is the Pi directly connected to the TV or is your TV connected to another PC accessing the Zabbix. Just the lite CLI version doesn't have a browser & think we broke it trying to install chromium on it! Does your Pi also run the TV dashboard display? Cheers

Did you happen to find a reason yesterday? Having the same issue here, can't see where the setting that could be causing the issue. Even as admin it doesn't let me add a video

Nice one, thanks it's this sort of aspect I we need to be aware of - Cheers!

Just after some advice for the best direction. Basically, we're forming a new Trust, our school and a primary to start and then a couple more primaries later on. So they're creating a trust which needs domain/email etc. Neither school is changing it's names/domains or e-mail. Since we're staying the same name & domain, I guess we need to create a new separate tenancy for the new trust and then move our two schools into that control? Or do add to our existing tenancy? How does the licensing work in that sense. Buy a new EES license and then when, once we get to renewal both schools will come under a new same agreement with the Trust as the main owner? They basically will just initially need e-mail (imagine them just signing in separately into the trust webmail to send/receive) and a website holding page to start off with, but I guess in future they'll want to be able to collaborate on sharepoint/teams easily so can imagine best to plan for this in the first instance? Sorry lots of questions.... Any tips, or companies you'd recommend for advice? TIA!

Our USB-C HP laptops are starting to wear as well. We've got the 3yr care packs warranty so at the moment HP are replacing the mainboards. We've found a driver/firmware updates does fix it sometimes like pysdii mentioned earlier. But it's not very robust connection and easily knocked and it just 1 usb-c on the laptop it's a single point of failure...Wondering when HP will start saying it's wear and tear and they won't fix them- but personally these ports should last 3years+ so I thinking it's fair they replace them. Wish those magnetic couplers worked with display etc so if they do get knocked it doesn't damage the port.

Just after some advice/tips? Got quotes for some new Switches for our core, and now trying to decide between and Aruba 5406R solution or a Meraki MS425 & MS225 solution. I really like the Meraki web interface, never been much of a CLI guy so that does appeal - Our other switches are all aging Procurves so sticking with the HP/Aruba is also tempting (but these will get replaced over the next couple years too so not a huge thing I guess). Not much in it cost wise, especially with the Meraki 10year license included. Looking at the forum seems most have Aruba and not many have Meraki for Wired (plenty of Wifi ones) Is Aruba Central a good system for Switch monitoring/troubleshooting? Thanks !

We had this issue too with our BYOD system, support put a script on our box to clear the table. This is the call notes which may help... "We put a script in place in /etc/actions/secondboot/ called 9999deletemac1x with the following content: #!/bin/bash #This script deletes the mac1x chain from iptables to resolve MAC to IP address binding issue with BYOD/RADIUS setups /sbin/iptables -F mac1x /sbin/iptables -D INPUT 1 /sbin/iptables -D FORWARD 1 /sbin/iptables -F mac1x /sbin/iptables -X mac1x This will run at boot to disable the mac1x chain. You do not need to run anything manually. "

We bought a couple of these https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/p/microsoft-wireless-display-adapter/8vwdj9bd9xlz?activetab=pivot%3aoverviewtab for our meeting rooms. Work great, and dead simple to use. Can add passcodes to stop students using and don't need anything installing on the Windows laptop. Haven't tried a Chromebook though. No way of managing them all if your planning on having loads, firmware updates etc.

Got mine! Proper chuffed, such a great way to end the week. Huge thanks to y'all!

Just noticed this: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/roadmap?filters=&searchterms=66459 I'm assuming it's full roll out has been delayed? Or am I looking at a different Roadmap Could really do with it though, looks a much better way to get the attendance list.

Looks like we were in some limbo state, videos were recording fine but just appearing in Teams. No trace in Sharepoint/Onedrive or Stream? Very odd. which is why I was getting confused by the lack of delete options. So used the instructions that @Lionman mentioned (Cheers btw!) and now it's doing as it's supposed to. Putting the videos in Onedrive/sharepoint - So thankfully we can now delete! Now been asked to block downloading the videos, so they can just view them. Which seems to be another feature that's missing... all fun.

Cheers @mrhall - ended up having to delete the team. Couldn't wait for Microsoft, they kept telling me to look in my Onedrive or on Stream.....
