This could be the network drivers, The HPE Embedded adapters are Broadcom based. which are known to have latency issues when the VMQ feature is enabled. i usually turn it off if a drive update doesn't fix it or im pressed for time.

Hyper V - full server install or Hyper V Server?
mgs1990 replied to Cazale's topic in O/S Deployment
pretty much as mavhc said really Standard covers you for 2 VM's & 1 host, providing the host is only used for the HyperV role. As soon as you use it for something other than that, you'll need to license it -
Hyper V - full server install or Hyper V Server?
mgs1990 replied to Cazale's topic in O/S Deployment
we experienced a ridiclous amount of issues with Hyper V Server 2016 in its first few months, especially when using clustering or MPIO, so much so we ripped it out and put Hyper-v server 2012 back in. We put HyperV server 2019 in 3 weeks ago and havent had any major issues managing it, infact we havent had any issues at all *touch wood*. The Built in Microsoft management tools & the admin center pretty much does all we need, so cant comment on compatibility with 3rd party tools, Veeam & Naviko work with it too so backups arent a problem. We thought about putting in a fully fledged version of server 2019 but decided against it as Hyperv server has fewer vulnerabilities as it only installs the componets it needs and if we did go full server someone will no doubt use the server for something which will require us to get another license. -
[free] x12 FREE Samsung Galaxy Tab3 7" Tablets
mgs1990 replied to GwynDavies's topic in Classified Adverts
Hi, are these still available? we could make use of these for some of our more able pupils. -
I occasionally have this issue, its normally down to our proxy not letting the profile through. Have you tried putting the iPad on a connection without a proxy and adding the profile?

How many SIP trunks/channels do I need???
mgs1990 replied to fiza's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
From what i remember of implementing this a few years ago. you'll need 15 SIP Channels (1 channel per outgoing/incoming call) you dont need 1 channel per number/phone unless you want 75 simultaneous calls Amount of channels per trunk alters with your SIP provider. numbers can be bought in blocks from BT or your SIP provider. -
we have alot of 600 series, a few 500's and a few PX340's. The 600's are picked up if i point them to the drivers but the PX340's aren't recognized neither are some of the 500's. INK doesn't seem to work with any of them either. The only reason i say 12.2 is because that is what we were running on Win7/Win10 (1503) before the summer with Smart 11.4 and everything seemed to work. Upgrading to SLS isn't an option either unfortunately as LG dont want to pay the annual subscription charge for software that doesn't get used. Plus we are starting to phase out smart boards and go for BenQ panels as the majority of staff dont use the notebook software anymore, they just use the INK part for annotation.

Hi All, I was just wondering if anyone out there has a copy of Smart product drivers version 12.2 & ink 2.3? I've just done a rollout of windows 10 v1709 but forgot to include the drivers in the image and i can't find them anywhere, there no longer on the smart site and google yields no results

[sims] Urgent Capita SIMS Data Issue - Issued by childrens services
mgs1990 replied to vikpaw's topic in MIS Systems
Only found out about this because of this thread, Spent the entire morning checking student details, luckily we're a small school. Cheshire seemed completely unaware that this is an issue when i reported it this morning. I'm still awaiting on a response from them on releasing the Summer upgrade or patch so i can try to prevent it from happening again. -
Virtualizing server suggestions
mgs1990 replied to xxlonewolfxx123's topic in Learning Network Manager
I replaced our server back in December and visualized everything. I chose to go for a bare metal install of Hyper-v Server, rather than installing server OS and the hyper v role. Once initial setup was done I've barely touched the CLI, as most things are controllable through hyper-v manager on a desktop. The cost we had from VEEAM to cover 6 VM'S was excruciating so that got ruled out very quickly, we ended up getting Naviko as it installed straight on to the WD NAS we have, meaning no software on any of the servers and its a piece of cake to setup & restore machines if needed. -
Unfortunately our smoothy is provided by the LA and we only have delegated access to manage the filter list, we cant even edit policies. I completely agree, UniFi kit is great and is massive value for money, heck i even use it at home. but unfortunately it doesn't work for the current setup we have here.
-
I thought this may be the case, unfortunately alot of the people we get in wouldn't aren't exactly IT savvy so offering the certificate from the captive portal wouldn't work. My first suggestion was to install something like ruckus but they shot that down as they only installed the UniFi kit in September. Sounds like a separate FTTC is the easiest way, i could then use a DNS based content filtering service aswell to make it even easier. Thanks for the heads up. The guest network is currently secured and the key phrase (which is manually changed, every week) is only given out to guests. before i got here it was unsecured, don't know who thought that was a good idea

Morning! I've been asked to look into setting up a new guest WIFI network, as the current one is just an additional SSID for the internal network with no segregation at all, (setup before i started). I've established that i need to create a dedicated VLAN so that it cannot access the internal network, However im getting stuck on how to push our LA proxy settings & certificate (Smoothwall) to our to guest users. Internally i have pushed the proxy setting out via W-PAD and installed the certificate via group policy, but unsure how i will go about this for guest users. We are running UniFi AP-AC-Pro's & have 2 UniFi Switch 48

any objections if i jump in on the offer aswell? Starting to migrate to windows 10 over the summer and it would be nice to have something to compare to.

The one's i got from screwfix last year are still holding up 10m of rope light i hung under the soffit's last Christmas. so should easily hold some cables

I was taking to Phil 10 days ago via email so he must have left and come back at some point? Phil was a great account manager, very straight talking and didn't make excuses. Gutted that misco has gone they were always quite fair on pricing for me.

Funny how you mention the firewalling issue. We have the same issue where we can access all the other schools infrastructure and they can ours. The setup of the WAN is a nightmare from a security point of view as we can access/change things is any school on the WAN. They've used the inbuilt default groups in AD which is just a nightmare. I'm currently in the process of doing a cost analysis for moving everything away from them. i have been informed of various issues which i would consider major over the past couple of years, So there's definitely some travel in the idea. We're still on analogue lines which so it makes things abit simpler for us in that aspect

Perfect! That answers a lot in regards to the MIS!!
-
Our sims server is actually internal but licensing and maintenance is all controlled by the LA. Ideally I'd like to pull the LA network completely and rebuild into one network for the school, shutting out the LA in the process, but What I can't quite work out is how to transfer the required date to the dfe and other bodies as the LA currently handles this but I don't know how we'll just yet. Assumption is I could use a data exporter such as groupcall? and can transfer/export to a set location they provide us with. I've never looked at scomis so it's another option I can look at.

Truth be told with the SLA they've signed up to I am struggling to find a reason to have any onsite IT staff at all. Departments order their own consumables, projectors etc.. I have a plan to tackle this already which will increase our budget. But the majority of our budget goes on the SLA and broadband costs. I keeping track of everything that falls foul of the SLA at the moment and it has to be said the majority of the IT related parts are not used. So hopefully I can use that to break out of it.
-
They are indeed paying twice, as they signed a 3 year SLA with the LA a few months before i started. The vast majority of the SLA is covered under the IT Staff here anyway. me plus one TTO technician only thing we can't touch is the MIS (SIMS) because we don't have the permissions for it. It's a relatively small secondary with around 850 students and 105 staff but that shouldn't effect the state of the IT here. I'm currently writing a report on my findings ready to present them to the headteacher (who is relatively new starting last year). But i cant actually make any changes at the moment as the SLA has taken the majority of my budget!! i have circa ~£500 left until March!!! Hopefully we can break away and things will get better for everyone but if i can find a school in the mean time that has broken away from the LA and show the head how things have been done elsewhere it could potentially help convince him.

Hi, I've just taken over as Network Manger at a school in North Wales, and i am astounded to find that they are running a flat network that is centrally managed which most Local Authority schools are attached to. We have VLANS which separate the admin and curriculum segments, Having worked in the private sector and previously in a school across the border i've never come across such a setup. The complete network is in dire need of an overhaul but for obvious reasons i'd like to seperate the school from the local authorities network as it is slow, cumbersome and we have very little permissions to do anything other than account administration and general technician duties Has anyone had any luck in separating themselves away from the local authority?

When i print to PDF, it comes out exactly as your example. Never thought of printer settings could be an issue as its still at its defaults and i used multiple printer. i'll investigate and update this tread with what i find

I've been tasked with printing out registers for a fire drill tomorrow, we have lesson monitor so i'm running the following report Reports | Lesson Monitor | Whole Group Pupil Reports | Today's Register Report But I'm having an issue getting them one page per form. If i print them using the standard layout they don't separate. I wouldn't know where to start on a custom layout. if i save the file i get a HTML file but even then i can't get them one per page, any help would be appreciated as i have no idea where to start on this. We're running Version 7.176 if it makes any difference.

ict technician - Tarporley Cheshire - no more details
mgs1990 replied to mikeprice's topic in Educational IT Jobs
This is most definitely the case, I used to work for them about 3 years ago and started there on a contract role. I know my predecessor was also through recruited on a contract basis. 2 other technicians that were recruited when i was there were also done through the same method, both of which ended up on full term contracts afterwards. they like the flexibility of agency's as if your not up to the mark they can let you go and get someone else in a few days. (got told this on my first day and has never left me) but all in all a nice place to work. only other thing to mention is they look after the IT for feeder primary schools so they many want you to attend them Not sure if this is allowed (im sure someone will tell me & ill take it down if not) but the person in charge of the recruitment is Pamela Zborowski, so probably easier to drop her a line if you don't want to go through capita. here's her email.
