We are partnered with a company called Primary Goal and have 4 apprentices through them. I'm not very hands on with it but the feedback from the team has been great, whenever I speak to the apprentices they always look happy and say they are enjoying the training and the experience. If you reach out to any apprenticeship company, they should be able to talk you through the process and requirements.

Changing domain FQDN - Has anyone done it?
NewFormz replied to NewFormz's topic in How do you do....it?
Thanks everyone for the feedback. We currently have trust relationships between all the sites. The main reason we have been asked to change is for branding reasons, we've been asked to remove anything that references the old school names. I've explained the best approach is to rebuild the whole AD and that this is a big job with some risks attached and that we will need to take time to plan it and implement with as little impact to users as possibly. They were hoping we could do it this summer with a few clicks of button. Luckily no Exchange so that is one thing I don't have to worry about! -
We are a MAT with lots of different schools, all FQDN in different formats, some have references to names of schools that have since changed. We've been asked to look into changing all of these so they have similar naming conventions and remove references to school names that are no longer in use. We are also considering the possibility of other schools joining our domain and us wanting to change their domain to one that matches our format if required. So my question, how easy is it to change a domain name? My previous experience is that you would probably have to rebuild the whole network, is it still such a daunting task or are there easy ways to do it now? Have any other MAT's done this and is it q requirement if you take on a new school? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Another unhappy Inventry customer here. It doesn't work as sold and has very poor security as well. We're also looking to move to to another solution, possibly Sign In as it ticks a lot of our boxes.

Sounds promising. Do you have a separate database for the central team or are you registered at one of the schools?

The issues we have are ID cards not working across all sites or users not showing up for manual sign in. It appears to effect different people in different ways. I've come to a school today where my card worked last week but this week it does not recognise it. We've spent a lot of time working with Inventry and every time one thing gets fixed something else then breaks.

Is anyone out there using Inventry sign in system with Arbor across multiple sites in a MAT? We are moving to Arbor soon and are unclear on how well it will work with Inventry, we are currently on SIMS and getting the two of them to work correctly has been a nightmare. It is fine for people situated at a single site but for everyone else there has been lots of problems that Inventry have not been able to fix. I'm curious if moving do Arbor will resolve these issues. If anyone has used them together and could give some feedback and comments about how well the integration works it would be appreciated. Especially interested to know how it works with teachers who go between sites and people from the Trust team who aren't set a permanent site. Thanks,

Have you considered staying in IT but getting out of the education sector? I've recently got a new job in the private sector as my job had got so bad. I don't start there properly for a few more weeks but having done a few Saturdays with my new team I can already tell it was the correct decision to make.

Recommendations for South East AV Installer

We use CDEC and the service has always been superb. -
I support a MAT with 3 schools and we use OS ticket for IT and SIte team requests. It's set up so that certain people at schools can only see jobs relating to that school. Whilst I can have an overview of everything. It has all the features we need, ability to assign jobs to a team or individual, Built-in Knowledgebase, can add attachments, email to report jobs, set priority and the ability to add notes the customers can't see. I'm sure there are more advanced options out there but this did everything we required and is free. A couple of bits were tricky to set up but we've been using it for over a year and haven't had any problems with it.
-
We've had it for about 4-5 years and it gets used loads, both in lessons and for homework. It's also one of the better resources to manage. I very rarely have to do anything with which is always nice.
-
We use OS ticket for logging both IT and Site requests. Staff just select which department they want to log a job with. It's handy having it all under one system as it's easier for staff to access and if a job is logged to the wrong department it is easy to transfer.
-
Do they just blame this on your network? We are using NRS for our cashless and although most of it works well I have found their portable tills to be rubbish. We've tried lots of fixes to get them working with no joy, they just constantly disconnect from the server. I've tried telling them that we have run lots of tests and have no issues with any of the 800+ devices on our wireless other than these tills, but they insist the problem is with the network! I've generally found the support to be a bit hit and miss like others have said.
-
Such a shame, I always had great service from my account manager (Alun) and always got good prices.
-
We've also given staff read only access the students work areas using NTFS permissions and mapping a drive to the top level folder.. works well and makes it easy for staff to access work.
