Libresoft Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 Why is the company called Libresoft? The name was derived from "Libre" - freedom and "soft" software. Software giving users freedom.
mavhc Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 not related to the usually meaning of libre in FLOSS then? Freedom to read and alter the source code?
Libresoft Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 not related to the usually meaning of libre in FLOSS then? Freedom to read and alter the source code? No, not related to FLOSS we have developed the Libresoft Librarian software ourselves - it is not open source. Libre has been taken from the French meaning of having little or no restriction.
RLR Posted November 22, 2018 Posted November 22, 2018 We're looking into moving away from IMLS now. Was wondering if anyone had any teething issues whilst migrating from one system to another? Anything to look out for or ask about? We're going to ask Libresoft, AccessIt and Reading Cloud for demos. As I see it, Reading Cloud is another version of IMLS?
atcoates Posted November 22, 2018 Posted November 22, 2018 I've been back to the sites this week that migrated to Libresoft. Both schools are very happy. They have had lots of questions for Libresoft and they've been really quick and responsive. There were a few minor issues after the migration with a couple of duplicated books, thats it.
RLR Posted November 27, 2018 Posted November 27, 2018 Anyone using Reading Cloud? Apparently the next generation library software by IMLS/Capita. Wondering if it's better than the current IMLS setup.
Theldron Posted November 27, 2018 Posted November 27, 2018 We have just moved to Libresoft from Eclipse 2. Libresoft were amazing really helpful and got us up and running in no time at all. Fantastic system, the librarian is happy, which is an achievement in itself.
gumbygaz Posted November 27, 2018 Posted November 27, 2018 Anyone using Reading Cloud? Apparently the next generation library software by IMLS/Capita. Wondering if it's better than the current IMLS setup. We are, to be honest It's slightly quicker that it used to be. But in essence the same system, I personally haven't really noticed that much of a difference. It still looks pretty basic looking unengaging website with a HTML5 version of the Silverlight management backend that you're possibly using now, which again looks the same. I'm not sure our current Librarian (new to the role) is really using it that much, bar scanning in and out of the books. We don't use the reviews, student logging in etc - So it's not that fully utilised. We would have jumped shipped had the last librarian been still here, but she left so they decided to keep MLS to save too much change. So stuck with it for the moment.

Libresoft Posted November 27, 2018 Posted November 27, 2018 Yes and it's still garbage... Hay Libresoft can you transfer Reading Cloud databases? Absolutely we have helped numerous schools move from their existing library management system. We can import your books, users and loans data meaning that all barcodes remain the same and loaned books do not need to be returned ahead of the switchover. The process usually takes about 2 hours (we ask to allow for half a day in case of any problems, our current record time is 41 minutes) after which you are up and running on Libresoft Librarian... 1

LansITGuy Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 Morning all. Is anyone still with MLS (Capita Reading Cloud / whatever) getting "You are not authorized to access this page" with their admin account(s) for Library Management in hosted Eclipse? We've been having this off and on for a few days. Not able to login at all Monday. Worked a bit yesterday, but all fails so far today. The best advice they give is clear the cache. Multiple OS / browsers? Inside and outside of network? Nope!!! Think I'm putting their number on speed dial.
Joanne Posted December 12, 2018 Author Posted December 12, 2018 I can logon just fine with no issues. Maybe you're on a dodgy server? 1
BOOT Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 Had this a few weeks ago. Raised a ticket, no response. After several days fixed itself. 1
LansITGuy Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 Thanks Joanne. Story of my life That is what I'm expecting to find. Apparently they've had "a couple of service issues over recent weeks" which may still be affecting us. I get that. Stuff breaks, but their systems seems so inconsistent. Another school looking to jump here.
LansITGuy Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 Had this a few weeks ago. Raised a ticket, no response. After several days fixed itself. Cheers. That is what seems to happen to us. I've got my workstation in after about 10 attempts today. Seems fine once you get in, but if you close your browser for any reason, you're back to square one.
Joanne Posted December 12, 2018 Author Posted December 12, 2018 Just an FYI, a colleague from a school local to me asked them to totally start their library from scratch, delete and re-set up. He said doing this made it so much faster, but of course has all the added work of scanning in all the books!!! Hope you get it sorted soon.

Multiple OS / browsers? Inside and outside of network? Nope!!! Think I'm putting their number on speed dial. Our Librarian had this in Firefox but not in Chrome earlier in the week. I found that using the URL that Chrome redirected to in Firefox worked fine so I set that as a bookmark for them and advised if the link from with Reading Cloud doesn't work just click the bookmark. I've set Firefox up for the library so it doesn't cache anything so I know it definitely doesn't need the cache clearing. 1

Joanne Posted December 13, 2018 Author Posted December 13, 2018 Oh yeah! That's probably a better idea!
TwistedHelixis Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 Can't you export, delete, and import? This is just a guess (not an expert in database function), possibly the issue was imported if they migrated from the onsite version, so exporting and importing might just move the issue off and back on. Or more likely - the software is ****
mavhc Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 Depends what the problem is, and if the export and import actually work. Old badly upgraded database, fragmented database, database that is never backed up so had a load of transaction logs, database full of old unneeded data, old books, history of checkouts etc.
j224 Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 Looks like they've been 'updating' the system over the weekend. Now 'Circulate' is greyed out (even after logging in as admin) and the usual tick box 'Unlock Circulate' in the settings section is completely missing!!
denzal2k4 Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 Anyone using a library system with RFID integration, we have self checkout kiosk and an alarmed gate scanner, that we have become quite keen on, Libresoft say they don't support it though, currently with MLS and DTECH kiosk/ gate.
