synaesthesia Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 We didn't receive that; and all the links on their software still go directly to MyMLS. So, I shall continue my slow-clap
p858snake Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 To be fair to them, they did send an email on 6th July... To be fair, They should have devised a solution that didn't involve creating new accounts as well…
j224 Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 To be fair, They should have devised a solution that didn't involve creating new accounts as well… Don't be silly. That would have involved far too much work for them
synaesthesia Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 By far too much, you mean "some" work right?
Katy Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 Another new support site? What happened to that Edoocoo they were trying to get everyone to use a while back?
synaesthesia Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 (edited) Hopefully dying a death as it answered a question noone was asking. And wow - just actually signed up for that out of interest. There was so little happening that the tumbleweed wasn't even rolling. Edited November 5, 2018 by synaesthesia
Griff Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 Has anyone tried to get out of their MLS contract early? I think we are keen to move to AccessIT but we are less than halfway through our current MLS contract...
LeMarchand Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 (edited) Has anyone tried to get out of their MLS contract early? I think we are keen to move to AccessIT but we are less than halfway through our current MLS contract... Tried... and failed. They don't like it if they're not given a ridiculously long notice period. That said, I don't think anyone who was dealing with MLS was a particularly strong negotiator. (Not saying that I'd have been better!) I have heard of people who have had luck by asking to see a signed contract agreeing to the terms MLS wanted for withdrawal. As in our LEA this was a central purchase, MLS couldn't do this and had to back down. Edited November 14, 2018 by LeMarchand Poor proof-reading

I think we are keen to move to AccessIT but we are less than halfway through our current MLS contract... Give them notice NOW. If you try to leave at renewal time, they say you haven't given enough notice and you have to sign up for another year. I ended up giving them 364 days notice. Clowns.

3s-gtech Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 Barely. I did take that time to download every paywall locked resource they had, update my copy of local Eclipse.NET to the latest version they had, and issue lots of support tickets. It felt good.
Griff Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 haha I will give them notice cheers for the replies folks. I have contacted them this morning to ask for a copy of our contract as I cannot track one down in school (was purchased before my time)
Griff Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 I just asked them for a copy of our signed contract as we cannot find one internally in school so I asked MLS for one heres their reply...wonder if this is enough to get out of the contract early and maybe get some money back...I doubt it but hey I am sorry to advise I am unable to provide you with a copy of your signed Terms & Conditions.

Can see how they can hold you to their ridiculously long notice period and if you get some money back it'll be a bonus.
bennz Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 They will have a copy of it they just don't want to share it as what they state as your terms may not exactly match the ones you would have signed.
atcoates Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 Two of my schools migrated to another system this week. The company didn't charge for the migration and all went really smoothly. Librarian's are happy and so is the bursar as a lot cheaper!
Katy Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 I am sorry to advise I am unable to provide you with a copy of your signed Terms & Conditions. Ask them whether it even exists - if it exists, there must be some sort of data protection or whatever rule to say they have to give you a copy. Or say you're gonna stop paying as there's obviously no contract, and you can't be held to terms that you don't know what they are. rpain Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 Well we’re also looking to move ASAP and I spoke to them today to enquire about the notice we would have to give (got through nearly straight away...strange that). She said 90 days(!) and she then asked straight away whether their new ‘customer success’ department could give me a call! I’ve asked them to call on Monday but I don’t think I have music long enough for them to listen to while I make a cup of tea and have lunch. Our contract renews in 6 weeks so I think we may well just refuse to pay it. In the contract it does mention that the contract can be terminated if either side fails to fix a problem within 4 weeks. We have a huge email thread to prove that’s the case. Will let you know how we get on. 1

mavhc Posted November 17, 2018 Posted November 17, 2018 @atcoates would you mind pm'ing me who you moved to? Looking to do something similar! Don't PM, say it in public
atcoates Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 Don't PM, say it in public Our school library service recently did a showcase of 10 suppliers and this was what my schools liked the look of. It doesn't do a ton of extra stuff, but does function as a good library system which is all they really wanted. Libresoft Librarian - The Smarter Way To Manage Your Library Both schools are up and running and seem happy with the speed etc. I'll feedback with any of their feedback.

Libresoft Librarian - The Smarter Way To Manage Your Library Both schools are up and running and seem happy with the speed etc. I'll feedback with any of their feedback. Over the last year all 3 of mine have switched to this. They've been very quick with support the couple of times it's been necessary. My only niggles are that it complains if you don't use Chrome and that you can't set the launch page to the "borrowing" one. I suspect the latter may change in the future as they've already made it easier to log into that page. Used a very locked down Porteus Kiosk setup at the least cared-for site that seems to work well: Auto-on via BIOS weekdays and auto off at night. Navigation bar hidden and the browser set to only allow Libresoft pages. The librarian just has to remember to use another machine for printing.
Libresoft Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 We are happy to hear your schools are pleased with Libresoft Librarian. We are continually improving and enhancing our system so in response to "it doesn't do a ton of extra stuff" - do let us know if there are some specific features that we can add (via e-mail to or Tweet us @LibresoftUK). The system has been most thoroughly tested in Chrome but should work in most modern internet browsers - with the exception of printing barcodes due to the margin settings where Chrome is recommended. Allowing the system to launch straight into the borrow/return page is in our development list so watch this space... We are here to answer any queries so do get in touch if you would like any information from us.

I'll rephrase this "it doesn't do a ton of extra stuff" to "it doesn't to a ton of extra stuff that companies seem to think they need, but don't actually need"
