It started raining one minute before I got off the bus this morning, and stopped one minute after I got into my office. I foolishly judged the weather by how it was in Essex (fine) and not by how it was in Kent (not fine). I only had a hoody on over my work clothes, I was soaked to the skin

Never do that, I have sat at the riverside in 20+ temps here watching heavy thunderstorms in Tilbury. Although we seem to have some blue skies now :-)

Scifigirl Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Rain has gone away- sun out tho black clouds threaten..... kids in the nursery keep screaming as soon as there a big gust as they get pushed along--- they find it hilarious to watch the TA's chase them to make sure they dont fly into a fence. its quite funny from my point of view as well - kent here too 1
Katy Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 (edited) We lost the lid to our green bin at home (second time that's happened, broke off when the bin fell over and blown away never to be seen again). Wind picking up here too (Lytham so not far from Preston) and somehow blowing through my office despite the double glazed windows being closed Forecast said 49mph with gusts to 73mph here this morning. Glad I decided to wear trousers today with all the draughts in this place! Edit: Also the fence around the builders compound has blown over, and has either hit a car or had a close miss, hard to tell from here. Edited February 23, 2017 by Katy

Some roads are blocked due to trees no longer wanting to stand up! We have cabling on the School roof that has broken free and now flapping down the side of the building.

AJWhite1970 Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 (edited) I've got the south facing doors and windows of the Chapel I'm sat in locked as the wind is that strong opening the doors is almost impossible without losing a finger or two. The airbase up the road is currently reporting 55mph gusts and 39mph sustained. Apart from that, one 10 minute hail storm at 7am this morning and now a nice sunny day. elsiegee40 Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Pretty windy in West Kent. The local weather station records the maximum gust so far at 54km/h (34mph) which isn't too bad. Just checked out the Buxton weather station - maximum gust 76mph!
