I had a pair of Quickshots and indeed, the Kempston felt simpler but robust enough for you to beat a Nokia 3310 to death with it. And the clicks, the satisfying clicks.

 

OMG, just saw the mention of the Cheetah Bug @3s-gtech. I hated those things! Although I was proud to have sold one sat on the shelf at one of my first sales jobs that had been there for about 10 years. That was in 2001!

They took a lot of getting used to, admittedly. Once you did, you had a chance of actually completing some of the rock-hard side and vertically scrolling stuff we used to play, rather than getting in a temper and playing Paddington's Garden Game instead.

I had (still have) hundreds of games for my C64 - I used to get through joysticks at a fair rate. The microswitched ones always died pretty quickly, especially as a great many games thought that 'waggling the joystick' was a good gameplay idea (try explaining that to today's kids without blushing)

Remember Stroker64? :embarassed: A real joystick waggler! I used to like any game by Jeff Minter...

Wasn't a fan of Jeff Minter's stuff at all - I think the copious quantities of various substances he (may have) imbued during his hippy phase (i.e. his life) made everything so weird. Generally, if joystick waggling was involved, I stopped playing [emoji29]

Correct! It's not really possible to tell the model specifically from the ports, but as it has dual Firewire 400 it has to be a slot-loader. This one is a 400Mhz DV Special Edition in Graphite, still working lovely (just tested it); with all accessories including the godawful mouse. Always fancied putting OS X Tiger on it but it's not that easy to find. Edited by 3s-gtech

Got one here, usually used as my foot rest, but still has some Final Cut projects I go into.

 

Running Tiger ... but slowly, with a 40GB drive and 512 Meg of RAM ... it works quite well.

 

I have an old DV camera (bloody expensive, shoulder mount one) with FireWire, so use it for getting stuff off that when needed.

 

Slot-loading drive has died but have an external Combi drive that I use (use a USB 3 powered hub to give it juice) but I have limited space on my desk to get it out as much as I would like.

This one being on 9.2.1 with 512MB of RAM, it is impressively quick and responsive! Yours could benefit from taking up to 1GB - mine won't recognise the 512MB DIMMS I have though.

Right - something a bit different - but this seems like the right thread

 

I have this samsonite case that is obviously supposed to be something techy - but I have no idea what

I found it with an Apple G4 laptopy thing in it

 

It plugs in at the back and the fan runs

 

any clues anyone- don't expect a sudden revelation from me as I have no idea!!

It's literally just a Mac carrying case - Samsonite / Consel Apple MacBook / Laptop Mains Powered Case | eBay The feet are to lift the laptop for cooling. I wouldn't want to go near an airport with that thing though ;)

 

Must have cost a fortune new!

 

wow - over the top or what - the mac is only small!

 

still not sure what all the power cables are for - they obviously won't connect to the mac

did it originally come with speakers/projectors or something

 

 

or - as it looks like something out of Mission Impossible (the original series) - a satellite comms system/rocket launcher/automatic system to release all locks within a 50 yeard range

I'd expect a small printer, possible a projector, maybe even the PSU for speakers. Plus, of course, the missile guidance system, Large Red Button console, reel-to-reel tape recorder and trouser press.
