We had 3 when I was at primary school, primarily connected to BBC Micros but could also be used with the Archimedes too. I found a load in a cupboard at one of my old schools and was told they were really useful and not to be thrown out. Sounds like they didn't have anything to connect them to even if someone had wanted to use them!

The software to control them was super simple and intuitive - you could set sequences that were timed, stepped, sequential, based on input parameters like button presses, etc. Very fond memories. They can be made to work with modern PCs too!
