Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 3.0GHz Quad-Core 2GB 1,066MHz Corsair PC2-8500 SDRAM Dual ATI Radeon x2900 XTs, each with 512 MB of GDDR4 SDRAM 2 x 160GB Western Digital Raptors (RAID 0). 1 x 750GB SATA HDD 1100 Watt power supply Liquid cooling for the video cards and the CPU Cost = $6,200 It's pretty amazing to see how things have progressed in just nine years. To be honest, I'd say it's more amazing that things haven't progressed further than they have. Apart from the graphics card and the small amount of RAM, everything in that PC could still be usable today. Really, it's the storage subsystem that lets that PC down in modern terms, stick an SSD in there and it'd still be quite usable.

I also like the Graphics Card prices. Radeon Hd 2900 XT cost $399 at launch, just $200 less than the GTX 1080, yet the difference in capability is staggering!

No over-complicated touchscreen etc to waste power, just a simple screen, an audio port, and expandable storage. Who needs anything else on an mp3 player?
