That's cool. To be honest I didn't watch much of the Capaldi stuff. It might make me watch a bit more - maybe that what the BBC wants. I think the doctor needs a rest for a while.

Another opinion! Doctor Who will have a rest until the Christmas special.

No you aren't. I AM a woman and I think having Dr Who as female will change the whole dynamic of the program, to its detriment. I know the Master became Missy, but she ended up doing and saying things and crying that the Master NEVER would have done.

Equality or feminism doesnt mean that every gender gets every part.

When they announced her the fact that it was a women doctor didn't even cross my mind!

 

The fact that it took 13 Doctors before it was a women is mind blowing, if they had it back in the old who i don't think there would of been as big as a fuss as there is now! It's only because they've been all male up to now

Personally though as they have had two Time Lords regenerate and change genders already, I feel it is established and I accept and support this, I just hope the new show runner and the writers does the character justice.

I don't know what to think of this yet to be honest, I think i'm happy to sit on the fence about the male/female thing because I don't really care either way there, from watching it there have been female time lords so its canon and not just for the "sake of it", though I see its been touted that way, the trouble with this series is that it ebbs and flows with the writing, some of it has been very decent, Day of the Doctor was probably the last enjoyable event for me, I like it more when they deal with the whole Mythos behind the character.

 

I agree, I hope they do this character justice, because Capaldi started well, but drowned in Clara then I thought, same as Matt Smith with Amy Pond.

Science fiction and geek culture has been swinging towards empowered female leads for a while, so it doesn't come as a surprise. If it is the right decision time will tell, I just hope if it doesn't work out that gender won't be used a shield against criticism.

 

Not that I have high hopes anyway because I stopped watching more than a handful of episodes when James Cordon was defeating the Cybermen with the power of love.

I admit I have a few reservations.. I hope she's been cast the part because she's the best candidate and can play the role well - I wouldn't know, I don't think I've seen her in anything before - rather than the BBC just trying to virtue-signal how progressive they are. I'll still watch it and give her a chance, I've done it with all of the Doctor's so far and I've been pleasantly surprised so far. It's her "as a feminist" quote that bothers me though, I really don't want a third-wave feminist agenda pushing the direction of the show (there's a huge debate to be had about third-wave feminism vs feminism of the past vs egalitarianism, but this thread ain't the right place for that.)

I'm disappointed. I wanted it to be a middle-eastern woman, so that the Daily Mail would implode with fury.

 

I don't really care about the gender, colour or whatever. The key is good writing.
