I don't know why I thought it was her Still, I expect her performance as the Doctor would be similar to Suranne as the TARDIS, so I'd enjoy it nonetheless As an old-school hetero male, I'd be a bit uncomfortable with a Doctor I found fanciable (so sue me) and H B-C, particularly in goth mode, holds a certain appeal (also, sue me). So no to H B-C from me.

Doesn't diminish the program at all for me. That being said, I don't reckon they would have her as a Doctor because her usual style is dark and dingy and that's not really what the character of The Doctor is all about. I reckon she could be a fantastic addition to certain plotlines, but her as 'The Doctor' would be quite a break from the characters usual personality.

But i don't assosiate her with the Master in any shape or form when i see her on DW. I think it would have been much better if they'd created a new character with her own back story rather than the identity politics of 'look, time lords can change gender!' change that we got.

Getting pretty bored with Missy now, it has to be said. I'm just not really engaged in her character/story arc.

The Rani? It was an opportunity to confirm Timelord/Timelady crossover that had been non-canon since Tom Baker mooted the idea in a news conference when he was leaving the show.

They did that with what's-his/her-face when they killed/didn't kill Clara. I reckon it would have been better to have played it casual that way, but without the cross-gender-regeneration thing, it would've been a bit more difficult to bring the Master back in. 1

It didn't specifically need to be The Rani, it could have been a whole new evil Time Lord. That said, Missy is a much better fit to The Rani's Character than The Master.

I've really enjoyed this series. Best one in quite a few years I think. Each story has been interesting, and there's been some original ideas for a change. The last episode went back to the kind of formula Russell T Davies used to use for his season finales. Would've been magnificent if not for the spoilers. John Simm Doing his best Babylon 5 Zathras impression was superb though! 1
