There's a trailer for a trailer? Next they'll show the episode before the trailer, due to timey whimy reasons.

Neat that it's on the 23rd Nov though

That's been a thing for a while now. Not as obnoxious as the "mini-trailer" often attached to the front before the "proper" trailer. Are people's attention spans really that short? Or are advertising execs judging people by their own standards?

What bugs me is that it's been off air for nearly a year... was wondering if the show was being retired again or if they felt the show was running out of steam.

This happens quite frequently with the show. Back in the Tennant/Smith days, series were fairly regular, with the odd series that may air 18 months after the previous one. However with Capaldi and now Whittaker, it seems more frequent. Maybe it's because the show lost steam when Smith left?

Since the new era has started, I can't recall a year, or near year break. The only time there was a few episodes stretched few and far between to my knowledge was Tennant's last year, which were the specials since he was preforming Shakespeare (Hamlet IIRC) around the same time.

Oh, it felt like the gaps were always larger. Looking back, the gap between the end of a series and start of the next tends to be around the yearly mark. There have been a couple that have exceeded that, like you said, Tennant's last year. Also Series 9-10 (Capaldi) was a 15 month gap.
