What antivirus is everyone using?

I really like the idea of Sophos AntiVirus although for some reason even though I've added exceptions it dosen't seem to act on the exceptions so for example I've blocked C:\Program Files\ but it still scans that folder, I've checked the client side and it's for the exceptions...? Have any idea as of why this is happening?

I'll have a look when I get home. I do remember a couple of different changes I made on the web interface took a few minutes to replicate from the website settings to the PC.

Out of curiosity, why would you not want Program Files to be scanned?

 

It picks up things like Parallels Tools to be Malware when it isn't and there's various other applications that I have that I know aren't Malware but it will detect it as being. So I'd just rather it not scan Program Files... Viruses tend to hide themselves in System32 somewhere anyway so they don't tend to reside in Program Files, iif they do I tend to remove them manually not as though I've had a virus in 4 years

Fair point - I'm too paranoid to set what could be such a large folder as an exception (Especially with some of the garbage I end up installing), so I'd probably waste time setting each file as a separate exception .

A couple have mistakenly believed it was in reference to school machines, rather than home.

 

Though personally, MSE and Sophos are free and easy enough to install, so I can understand the numbers. One would hope Microsoft know what should be working in their OS and what shouldn't be there.

I see. However Sophos home is gaining popularity as a product I understand and if techs are using it at work it makes sense that its high in this poll.

Odd... to block a directory all I did was list it, such as C:\Program Files\ and C:\Program Files (x86)\ as you used (including the trailing slash as you did) and it skips those directories, even when running a manual scan. No additional changes are required for that setting. It does take a minute to replicate from the Home Dashboard to the Client, but once it shows up on the local expections... it works fine.

I used Bitdefender on my windows PCs when I had them, I don't have any on my mac though at the moment, I don't download any stuff from strange sites though these days much

Sophos Home on my Mac and Endpoint Security and Control on all my Windows PC's.

 

I've had no problems with Sophos, I used to use AVG however since Sophos launched their Home UTM product, it seemed a no-brainer to switch.

I don't know why but when I do a full scan from the client side I can still see it's scanning those directories. I have 5 computers hooked up to it and they all do the same! So Annoying.

MSE for me too, it's built in to Windows 10 so I don't even bother anymore. I used to use Kaspersky, but I don't bother now.

 

Since getting my first ever computer I have never once had a Virus on any of my home machines, I'm sure I could if I tried hard enough though

Sophos only because it came part of our bundle with the security appliances.

I was using Bitdefender but that kept on Bluescreening my pc, so now use Symantec Endpoint (free from work) along with Malwarebytes antimalware and Anti Exploit.
