6Foot2 Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 I just got off the phone with a guy from 'Microsoft' telling me that my hard disk has been clogged with viruses and that it had sent an alert to Microsoft. I know that this is nothing new, but I am surprised that they are willing to waste 1/2 an hour, as they did with me just now, calling a school with its own IT department only to fall at the last hurdle where they were to finally take control of the target machine. 1

mikeprice Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 my record is 45 mins on a rainy Sunday I was using an Ubuntu laptop which confused them a lot I think they started to think it wasn't going to work when they asked me to press ctrl with one finger and r with another - and I asked it would work if I used my thumb instead of a finger (my girlfriend elbowed me in the ribs at that point) still - I was bored - it was a bad time for them to ring - and I had 45 mins of fun 1
gshaw Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 We had one not so long ago as well. Wound them up for a while to the point where the "technician" accused us of being the scammers and that our main reception number wasn't real either. Quite a fun phone call that was

Quite a fun phone call that was That happened to me at home! Mid way through the phone call they decided to call me a scammer and swearing at me for ringing them!

rrrrr Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 I had one once, just put the phone on the side and told them i was waiting for my pc to boot up. Just left them as long as i could pretending to wait for a computer to boot up. Said i was glad they called as it is running very slow and must have a virus. Think it was about 15-20mins until they realised i was a time waster and had a go at me for wasting their time!
Oaktech Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 (edited) We've had a few, but they've never been passed through to me, the staff have dealt with them appropriately... Exams officer at my last place left one on hold for 15 minutes whilst apparently 'getting the admin password' aka 'a cup of tea' then picked up the phone told them to do one because she 'wanted to drink her tea now' and hung up. The BM here just went 'No you're not.' to the 'I'm from Microsoft' opening line, and put the phone down. Our Super Nice receptionist lady apparently just told one scammer 'what would your mother say about you doing this' and hung up. Edited November 6, 2015 by Oaktech

But yeah, I had a scammer on once, got me to go in event viewer and he said "can you see all the errors" and I was like "nope, nothing here at all" obviously he knew I wasn't telling the truth and then I took the mick, up until the point he said people were coming for me and I was going to jail. I laughed and asked how quick flights were from India and he hung up. Kept me entertained.
localzuk Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 My housemate loves these calls. He does something different each time. So far he's pretended to be part of Microsoft Support himself, screamed as if he's being murdered and then hung up. Fun times
