Started watching Babylon Berlin season 4 on now TV (sky). It reminded me how great the first 3 were. Set in 1920/30's Berlin with a troubled cop and female detective. All the madness, violence, decadence and style of the times and superbly filmed. I've read the books it was based on which were pretty good too.

Mme LeMarchand away looking after the monster-in-law for a few days, so clearing stuff on the perilously full Virgin box. She doesn't like "time loop" shows/films much so I thought I'd give "The Lazarus Project" a go and ended up bingeing the whole of the first season this weekend. Really enjoyed it; it's not perfect: the lead character does some really dumb things and his girlfriend/wife (depends on the time loop) has two moments that (to me) suggest she's not really worth all his effort, plus Project Lazarus has worse security than most schools, but well worth a look. Be warned, it ends on a huge cliffhanger - luckily it's been renewed!

After being Impressed by Sky's "The Lazarus Project" I thought their "The Midwich Cuckoos" (based on John Wyndham's 1957 scientific treatise ) might be worth a watch. It is, but in no way needed to be a 7 episode miniseries; maybe a 3 or 4 consecutive night special. The people of Midwich only wake up at the end of the first episode and the births don't happen until the end of the second. It pretty much follows the plot of the book with a few updates for relevance. Not sure that somewhere the size of Midwich is supposed to be would have the police and hospital facilities they have here, and the ending leaves a couple of potential sequel hooks, one of which most people will be fine with but the other most will be screaming at a character who is armed to do something.

Which is OK - nothing specila - probably in the 'Young Adults' category or something

 

but it was OK for mindless "don;t think too hard" fantasy/magic

 

 

anyway - something came up and I stopped about half way through

 

 

Then -I came back to it teh next day and Prime had forgotten I had evner watched it and had now decided that I had to pay for it!!!

The HBO partnership seems to be working out well for Sky; this is the third Sky show I've watched it the last few weeks that has actually been good. I was a bit worried that it was all going to be a metaphor for post-partum depression or something along those lines, but it retained its dark heart until a brief penultimate scene (apart from a bit of wrong-footing here and there). If you love babies probably not for you but if you're not a fan you'll probably recognise a fair bit of the dialogue.

Mortal Instruments (2013) is a solo film not related to the Shadowhunters (2016) TV series. Although from what I can gather both use the same source material (having watched the film and the first season/ish of Shadowhunters).

Just finished SAS Rogue Heroes in two days. I don't normally binge watch unless it is good

 

It tells the story of the creation of the SAS during World War 2 and it is from the creator of Peaky Blinders

Andor, 10/10. Dark, gritty and incredible characters. You really feel the empire's & ISB's grip and power on the characters as they become more and more desperate as the season goes on which ultimately leads to the start of the rebellion. One of the best Star Wars content that's been made since Disney took over. A must watch.

I can recommend The Devil's Hour on Prime, and would put another vote in for Peripheral. Devil's Hour really sticks with you!

Undercover, a gritty Belgian/Dutch production. After watching the 1st series and now onto the 2nd, I can recommend this crime thriller which has some really dark moments and features superb ensemble acting. On Netflix.

Just finished S3 of Star Trek: Lower Decks. The first two seasons were OK, but mainly got watched because they were Trek and were handy for those times when you want to watch something that won't be too long. Season 3 was a marked improvement, with much more funny moments, loads of Easter Eggs and, in the finale, a rousing conclusion that would have been great in a live action incarnation.

1899 on Netflix. Only seen the first couple of episodes, but it's intriguing. Hoping it does have a "proper" ending though. The "revelation" about the priest in episode 2 seemed to be played as a "bet you didn't see this coming" scene, but I thought that it has been pretty much spelled out in the first ep.

 

Also started Wednesday on Netflix. Quite fun so far.

 

If anyone wants a "cosy murder series starring an older than normal glamorous lady" Acorn TV has Harry Wild (Jane Seymour in Dublin) and My Life is Murder (Lucy Lawless in Melbourne - though I think the location changes later). The latter is also available on other services. Neither show is particularly groundbreaking apart from showing women who are still physical after their 40s, but are OK for when you don't want anything too complicated.
