"The lesser FFs"? Have you heard yourself?

Since I didn't speak it out loud, no. But that doesn't stop me being right! :p

However...

I'm confused having watched the trailer a few times. It feels like a sequel to Advent children not a Remake in the truest sense.

I wonder if they're going to go all Battlestar Galactica (all of this has happened before and all of it will happen again)?

I'm still bloomin' excited regardless!

I finished Steamworld: Dig earlier today, quite a fun little game and for ~£7 it's good value for money with how long I played it for (just over 7 hours). Not sure if I want to play Monster Hunter 4 next or pick up Fire Emblem: Awakening.

I would have to agree that the vast majority of my games go uncompleted but games like dragon age, mass effect, knights of the old republic, Skyrim, Fallout ect have all been completed multiple times.

Counter Spy (was 'free' via PSN subscription). I thought it was a lot of fun, a bit short maybe but then it would have gotten boring if it'd gone on much longer. Playing back through on hardest difficulty now. Nice little game if you can pick it up under a fiver :)

I've bought a lot of games this past week in the steam sale, favourite so far would have to be Cities Skyline, also picked up Lego Worlds, I've not tried it yet but it looks fun.

I love NFS U:2. Played it through twice. Currently playing through NFS:Road Challenge. Glide wrapper, running nicely on W7. Damn hard though. Last game I completed was probably Far Cry 3.

Little one got me Arkham Knight for father's day, picking it up on Tuesday and have a weekend home alone in a couple of weeks so I'll probably finish it then :)

Last game I completed? Flashback - The Quest For Identity. The 2013(?) remake of the 1992(?) Amiga classic.

Just started Final Fantasy VIII on the PS1. I'm not sure I'll make it to the end. I didn't complete FF7 when I played that recently and so far that was a better game.

You say that, but you'll still be hoarding those points afterwards. I was the same after I hit 50,000, was still hunting for them until I stopped playing the 360, ended up around 92k. The achievement hunting never ends :p

possible but unlikely as ive never even noticed it before and then you see people with 1/2 a million points and give up esp as I don't really have anyone to chase as chasing say the achievement hunters (youtube channel) is an exercise in futility and iirc on my friends list im either thousands ahead or behind

We're going to have a falling out, me and you :p

8 is fantastic if you slow down and don't try and rush through the story. Explore the world. There are some fantastic sub-plots.

Some advice, though..

  • Learn to draw Magic, and pay attention to the Junction system. It's a tiny bit boring but it's worth the payoff.
  • Guardian Forces should be used primarily to junction and learn abilities. Don't let them learn SumMag+20% etc. Instead focus on STR-J, VIT-J etc, battle abilities (Devour, Mug) and junctionable.. things (I forget their name) such as Enc-Half/None, Mag+20%/40%/60% etc.
  • Have all your GF's junctioned at all times. Use the Junction Switch to swap them between your 3 active characters. Inactive characters don't need junctioned GF's and the GF like-o-meter isn't important.
  • Card/Card Mod can be a fantastic way to get the gear to upgrade your weapons, but even if you don't find the weapons magazines, weapon upgrades are always available if you have the items.
  • Don't forget to junction Elemental and Status magic, too, as well as STR, VIT, etc.
  • Using Renzokuken a lot is fun, but lots of Limit Breaks lower your SeeD rank.

I've literally just started. First impressions and all that. Just got out the fire cave at the beginning and changed my uniform, that's where I've left it for tonight. Just doesn't have the instant wow factor of Midgar at the start of FF7.

As for the Junction system - WTF? FF7's combat/magic system was nuanced enough for me. Am I playing a video game or editing a spreadsheet? I'll try and follow your advice (if I can make sense of it, and the game), thanks!

GF's can learn abilities that allow you to create magic from items. I can't remember their names, but if you go to set what your GF's are learning it'll be obvious. Also remember when a GF learns an ability it resets to SumMag+20% so pick a new one immediately after.
