Do you still use one or not?

 

Personally not used one for years and can't remember the last time I saw on in use on a desk for its purpose.

We've had the odd request so have just ordered 10 and our music dept have ordered 20 for their Macs as the mice don't seem to like the shiny benching!

No mouse mat for us. There was an exception in our Business Studies block due to the properties of the work surfaces in that block. The student computers have been removed and so mats aren't required there any more. A small number of staff express a preference for using them and we have a stock of old mats to support these requests.

Nope. I stopped using mouse mats at home when I bought my first optical mouse 15-16 years ago (a Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer). Since then I have always purchased optical or laser mice.

 

There are very few mouse mats at work too (probably fewer than ten).

Yes, at work and at home. One thing they do very well is keep an area of desk reserved, otherwise the mouse will just become part of everything else

I have a 'gaming' one, I think I got this free from dabs when I put some other order in... It's done me well and I find it does help compared to the desk, but I wouldn't think that I'd actually buy it however.

I'm still using my Microsoft IntelliMouse, must be 15 year old, and I like my desk pretty clear so no worries of the desk been filled up!

Only on my own work PC, and only because the mouse and desk surface don't quite get on as well as they should.

Dell one at work due to shiny surface, Steelseries QCK+ at home because i like to game.

Not at work, but I use a Steelseries QCK+ at home for gaming. My desk isn't brilliant and can affect the performance, no issues anymore.

I have a nice kensington gel wrist rest mouse mat in work and a combination of a Razer Goliathus/Roccat Gaming mouse (I managed to snag both while they were priced stupid cheap in PC World)

 

Best mouse mat I ever had though was an IceMat that my friend got a hefty discount on while working in Maplin, we both had one each for a £10 and I felt sad when it broke a couple of years back.

Didn't use one for ages, but one of the kids bought me a matching mouse mat and coaster set (and a mug... but no mouse), so now I do again. As @synaesthesia says, at least it means I have a space on my desk for my mouse!

Yes. Because my mouse does not track well on the weird wood block worktop I have as a desk. Bizarrely, I've worked at 3 entirely unconnected places now with the same bloody awful worktop.

Yep, use one at work and at home. At work because the wood grains seem to throw the mouse off a little bit and at home for comfort.

I'll only use one if there is a problem with the surface I'm using. Use a trackball at home and usually use a controller for games.

You'd be surprised, many modern mats are designed to be comfortable for your wrist and/or be as smooth as possible for mouse tracking which is particularly useful if you're a gamer.

No mouse mat at work, as I use yer' bog-standard 3-button Microsoft mouse.

Yes at home because I have a R.A.T. 7 that doesn't play nice with my desk.

At home I have a gaming mat, but nothing at work.

 

I thought people stopped using them when we switched to optical mice, though depending on the surface I suppose you might still need one.

work i dont have one but at home i have a neoprean cover for my desk it also means i can hoover my desk from crumbs

Have a trackpad for work MacBook and at home I do have a "Gaming Surface" by Razer.... Think it's just a marketing name!! Though my mouse at home seemed to gather dust underneath itself and leave large clumps of black dirt all over my nice white surface so it was much needed, just to prevent that rubbish happening to my desk.
