Emily_Tillcock Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Waited for two weeks before applying the Autumn release so any bugs could be found. Did the upgrade last week. Arrrgh.
Steven_Cleaver Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 As well as the issues with the upgrades we always seem to get so issues around lack of testing, it is the poor communication from Capita, that info on the Autumn release having issues and this not easily found\highlighted on Support Net to be honest why I use Edugeek to check for any issues. Why Capita can't at least as someone has already said email all contacts from Support Net where there are issues with Upgrades or releases so at least schools can decide and make a more informed decision if they want to install the Upgrade having this information or at the very least email all LEA contacts so that at least any issues are more widely known is beyond me. We asked for a similar feature from another supplier whereby we had an Email in regards to upgrades or issues with upgrades could be emailed to us with a link to relevant information and this was done within about a week with an opt in or opt out option. Surely something like this would be beneficial from Capita rather than people having to trawl through relevant articles, forums to find out any issues.
Atomic_Zombie Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Waited for two weeks before applying the Autumn release so any bugs could be found. Did the upgrade last week. Arrrgh. The problem is I think everyone did that, so as soon as people started to upgrade the issues cropped up.
Sylv3r Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 For those schools who have already installed it do you have a preference for a full install or patches? I've upgraded to Autumn 2014 and personally I find installing the patches easier than doing a full install - if CAPITA are releasing a version 2 and patches that would probably be better.
Boredguy Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 With Solus 3, I don't worry about patches as I just schedule it all for early morning
PhilNeal Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 It's all patchable if you are using SOLUS3. It is regrettable that things get through but we do put 1000s of hours into testing. 1

vikpaw Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 For those schools who have already installed it do you have a preference for a full install or patches? I've upgraded to Autumn 2014 and personally I find installing the patches easier than doing a full install - if CAPITA are releasing a version 2 and patches that would probably be better. I think patches are better, because won't a full install trigger a client update to the new version number? Possibly not, but even so, at least with a patch you can be selective, and only apply if needed. This is the case now, except there are probably loads of schools that need it. There is a list on SupportNet now. There's a lot to do with returns. These caught my eye: All customers on Server 2012 | Technical | In Server 2012 any calendar drop down in SIMS does not work under certain circumstances | Not yet known All Customers | Assessment | Within Assessment Templates users can not tick options on the 'Read Only' or 'Hidden' columns. It is possible to double click the column and tick from the 'Column Details' pop-up, but only if the template was created by the school, not imported. | Fix has been created | Autumn 2 2014 All customers | db Attach | Issues with restoring backups from non-default locations via db Attach Solution in Progress Fix has been created Autumn 2 2014
MrMat Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Hi, This is the reason why we have not pulled the initial Autumn release. Thank you for the reply Nick however I'm still a little confused. Your comment seems to be in contradiction with what everyone else is saying? I was under the assumption that the release has been pulled? Can you please confirm that this is NOT the case and the release is still available to deploy? Many thanks, Alex
Marshall_IT Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 I can't see it in solus 3 anymore apart from to redeploy.

Many thanks, Alex Certainly has been unless they're lying in emails (Skipped chunk of thread so sorry if that was already there) Dear Colleague Withdrawal of Autumn 2014 Release Please note that we have withdrawn the Autumn release from both SOLUS 2 and SOLUS 3 for both SIMS and FMS. We will be issuing SIMS 2014 Autumn 2 shortly and will advise you when this is available. If you have already upgraded there is nothing further for you to do at this stage but we will provide information on the changes in the new release and advise on next steps. The service desk is contacting all customers who have a case logged relating to this upgrade and providing advice for individual circumstances. If you have started the upgrade please contact the service desk – 0844 893 8000 for assistance. Kind regards Jeremy Jeremy Tobias Customer Services Manager Capita SIMS Steve
apearson Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 It's all patchable if you are using SOLUS3. It is regrettable that things get through but we do put 1000s of hours into testing. Not if you can't install it in the first place because it has been withdrawn! I'd have preferred to have been able to install it then patch it, but now I have to wait until Friday.
tech_guy Posted December 8, 2014 Author Posted December 8, 2014 I'm confused by what's going on with this. We had a shufty in Solus - and there were some updates there from October that we hadn't been notified about via email as well as the November ones that have now been pulled - when we checked last week. Now, we've got this: Confused. Time to phone support.
speckytecky Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Doubt you will get through @tech_guy their phones seem to be down currently to add to their woes.
tech_guy Posted December 8, 2014 Author Posted December 8, 2014 It's going to be one of those weeks....
splattthecat Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 One of the schools we support also received this email from Capita, but when I checked the upgrade had not been withdrawn for them or any of our schools, although Capita may have withdrawn the upgrade for some schools they directly support.
Paul_Featherstone Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Both Nick Finnemore and Phil are out today, but I thought it best to clarify the situation in their absence. We have not withdrawn the SIMS Autumn 1 release. Any school that has applied the release and is not affected by the issues listed on SupportNet should not need to apply the Autumn 2 release. However, schools supported by our Chelmsford support service desk will see that the release has been de-authorised (we incorrectly used the word ‘withdrawn’ in an email on the subject, which is what has caused the confusion in this forum). This is because our Chelmsford desk felt a number of the schools they supported would be affected by the issues listed. They believed, therefore, that the best option was to issue the re-release rather than individual patches. Other individual support units may have also taken the same decision and this would affect individual schools’ access to the Autumn release. I appreciate our communication could have been somewhat clearer on this matter and we will work hard on getting that right in future. Full details of known issues, patches and the progress on the re-issue (expected Friday) are available via SupportNet. Paul Featherstone Product Manager (Core and Releases) Capita SIMS 4
vikpaw Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Thanks for clearing that up @Paul_Featherstone - it's good to know Capita is watching.
matt40k Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Every issue is patchable by SOLUS3 but there is one issue (B2B scheduled tasks I think) that can't be patched by SOLUS2. I appreciate our communication could have been somewhat clearer on this matter and we will work hard on getting that right in future I think perhaps using SOLUS3 for what it was designed for would be a good idea going forward. The whole idea was rolling out patches is much easily rather then having to full (re-)release, so don't withdraw it on SOLUS3.
PhilNeal Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Autumn II is now available to support units for distribution to schools. Full details of what's fixed are on SupportNet 3
