The main thing that used to distinguish FMS was central payments, a system exclusive to local authorities. Whilst secondary schools used local payment options, many primary schools initiated a purchase that was paid through the LA payment system

I should escalate this issue inside ESS - the problem is highly unlikely to be SQL version related!!

FMS can use personnel data in SIMS at any time to calculate staff salary commitments.

Secondary vs primary pricing?

This could be a design feature! I seem to remember leavers appear for assessment/reporting purposes for 30 days their leaving date.

I'm pretty certain that none are SIMS! -

Nick that would be what I would expect but I'm not an insider anymore! FMS is definitely a ESS product. I doubt if SIMS Finance is included in the sale but as it was adapted by ESS to suit the academy market, I'd expect some sort of reseller arrangement. -

No but I'd expect a reseller agreement to be put in place. -

Paul, you are correct. One used to be ESS but hasn't been for >3years -
I left Capita over 3 years ago!

There are lot of interlinked tables within SIMS. You would need to use the Capita APIs to manage the data or you will incur charges if you get it wrong - not to mention the GDPR issues that could occur if you don't get the links right. The free app does it all and provides a means of passing a massive management issue from admin staff to parents.

SIMS has a free (at least when I was there) add-on Parents App Lite which allows parents to update and maintain their own data. There is an approvals process which allows the admin staff to accept or reject changes.

My subjects I would have been OK there. My wife on the other hand

Lesson registration, exam entries, option choices, cover & timetabling are the sort of considerations I would be looking at.

When I looked after SIMS, we could have opted for a very cheap service operating outside the UK but there was no service level guarantee available. For communication with parents, possibly on serious matters, I felt we had to be certain that messages would be delivered. It's all a mater of risks.

Thanks- if I was still at Capita, I’d be asking why!!

By C2K I assume this is the NI implementation - I believe this feature should be available to you so please call the support desk tomorrow

I’m pretty sure that Fees works independently to FMS - there are lots of Fees only users.

[sims] SIMS Finance (Cloud not FMS) - Any Schools adopting this?
PhilNeal replied to benIT's topic in MIS Systems
When I was overseeing it, the LA version hadn't been started. The language used is more accountant friendly and it doesn't have the same guardrails that FMS does so it doesn't stop you from doing unusual transactions. -
[sims] Considering moving away from SIMS - access to old data?
PhilNeal replied to londonbg's topic in MIS Systems
Yes that’s right. There’s one thing to determine and that is if you own the licence in which no problem. If your LA owns the licence they can decide. -

SIMS has a perpetual licence so it can still be used.
