Capita don't charge schools to use the APIs for their own purposes. Commercial companies that is a different matter. With regards assessment data it couldn't be easier to import from spreadsheets.

The programme of study features are particularly useful for early years through to KS3. I would use traditional Aspects (means assessment opportunity i.e. grade, comment, reading age etc). If you use Aspects make sure you use result sets (time periods) as this simplifies reporting.

Creating a balanced timetable is essential if the school is to succeed. Behaviour, achievement, wellbeing etc all depend on getting this right. Creating a timetable is largely an educationalist's task all be it a specialist one.

Close to 3,000 schools have successfully upgraded to the summer release and the uptake has been faster than usual. I'm afraid that there will be anomalies that occur but I believe the chances of failure are low. If you wait, more information will become available.

Currently the are eight reported incidents of this problem (PRB16298). It is caused by the existence of two category types with the same description (“Level”) something that SIMS does not permit hence it was not in a test scenario. It is not currently known how this has arisen though we can speculate that it may be due to migration from another system, or more lax validation rules in earlier versions of SIMS. Escalations are investigating the impact of a pre-upgrade patch to rename the duplicate category and allow the upgrade to be applied.

It can wait. The only thing to watch out for is the exams changes for results day.

I'm pretty sure there is a third party app that can be used to check out the data. It pays for itself if it finds just one pupil. I completely agree that it shouldn't be necessary.

I don't think we can put yet another number in the system!! Especially one that will need to be maintained manually.

@minimoo - I've checked with the Partner Team about the Person_ID. The only time that this would change is when a backup is restored and pupils re-entered in a different order. The recommendation is to use the GUID + the Person_ID to link to external systems. When 8 comes the GUID will be the same but the Person_ID will change.

@minimoo I agree that a number isn't included in the Regulation quoted - it's always been my understanding that a sequence is required as all admission registers have a space for a sequence number. I'll talk to the third party support team tomorrow about their guidance - I'm not aware that a Person_ID could change but they should know!!

Not an admission number. This isn't SIMS specific - its the regulation.

The grades against children will be retained as these are independent to the mark sheet.

If a child isn't actually in the school yet it isn't right to issue an admission number. Whilst the number of no shows is normally low it will still lead to false information being recorded i.e. Your school records will show that a child has been admitted when the truth is they haven't. There is a health & safety issue here too in terms of unaccounted children - your records could just lead to a child remaining missing in education.
