Hi, This was a quote from a friend at Parent Pay: "So, NOVA-T6 has no process in place that blocks or stops anyone who has it installed to legally export a timetable definition to CSV or XML. (Menu Route Data | Export to Third Party Systems). If the user does not have a contract or current licence to use the software, then they do so at their own risk from a commercial point of view." Thank you for everyone's comments, from what you are saying Bobsmith, I agree this is more about the Store procedure IP, not the export files themselves, which are by definition public. Nick

Hi Everyone, I’m looking for a bit of clarity and would appreciate your thoughts and experience on the below. I’ve recently heard from an LA that they are reluctant to let a 3rd party partner to have copies of use the XML files exported from NOVA-T to help build and test timetables within their new timetable software as part of their migration from SIMS to a new MIS. Their concern appears to be that using these export files for migration/testing purposes may breach ParentPay’s IP. My understanding was that schools and MATs have been using NOVA-T export files in this way for a number of years, so I was a little surprised by the concern. I also spoke informally with a former contact at ParentPay who suggested that, provided the LA holds a valid licence, using the export files in this way should be acceptable. Before responding further, I just wanted to sense-check this with the wider group and understand if anyone has had similar conversations, received formal guidance, or has a different interpretation. Any thoughts or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone Nick

SIMS Dinner and Agora your thoughts and reviews please
Nickfinn replied to Jehanzeb's topic in MIS Systems
Hi, We are completing some work in the coming months to unify administration processes across Agora. During this time one area we are looking at is providing the facility to extend the expiry of references for defined groups as can currently be achieved on an individual student basis. Sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. Kind regards Nick -
Dear All Bubbles is correct the current solution is an intermediate fix until the dev teams have developed and tested a fix to this issue. I apologise for the inconvenience this has caused. Kind regards Nick

How to reset default Academic Year for all users
Nickfinn replied to MaggieMilligan's topic in MIS Systems
Hi Maggie, There is a good reason for not defaulting back to the current Academic year, each time a user logs back on, especially if they are doing some work in a different Year and get side tracked, it would look like they had lost their work. However, there is a highly voted change request to show the Academic Year the user is working in, so it is very clear they are not in the current Academic Year, this is planned for the Autumn 2016 release. I appreciate the change is not going to help you right now, in the mean time can you send me your case number at [email protected], and I'll chase down your case for you. Kind regards Nick -

[sims] Lesson Monitor - Quick View Of Previous Attendance
Nickfinn replied to pastymaster's topic in MIS Systems
Hi, There isn’t a way of looking at the previous two weeks of a tutor group by Lesson Marks, from Take Register, but it is possible to see the last 10 sessions of any given register, using the toggle on the register. You could also consider creating a quick link to one of the reports such as the full register report and adding to your favourites, so it is one click away or this could be a quick link to a report that you have designed yourself that has the defaults for each tutor. If you send me your details I can get someone to talk this through with you. My email details are [email protected] Kind regards Nick -
Hi, We have had a handful of schools where we are seeing issues with connectivity, and this might be reason for the marks not saving. The support desk should come back to you shortly to offer a full health check on the environment to resolve these issues. Kind regards Nick

Please can you contact the SIMS sales team on 0800 170 1726 or at [email protected] with details of your school - they'll be happy to help @teejay – you’ll be please to know that the SIMS Teacher app has always allowed teachers to easily select one or multiple students to record behaviour or achievement information - whether in class or on the go, in or out of school. @betty02 - If you've signed-up for the Teacher app using the online order form, you should receive your school's activation details usually within 24 hours via email. We have recognised that when the Summer release was originally deployed, the version title in the SOLUS3 user interface was labelled incorrectly, while the packages deliver version 21, the title in SOLUS3 was labelled up as 23. When we re-released the packages in SOLUS3 later on in the day, we corrected the title to reflect the correct build version. In summary, the package files are the same (Version 21). Sorry for the confusion Kind regards Nick

[sims] CAPITA pull Autumn 2014 Release - Why???!!!
Nickfinn replied to tech_guy's topic in MIS Systems
Hi, I just thought I would jump on the forum to clarify the current situation. The re-release has been requested by some support units simply because they preferred this option to applying individual patches. The full list of known issues is now available on SupportNet. If you have not been affected by these, then there is no need to apply the re-release. This is the reason why we have not pulled the initial Autumn release. Thanks all for the feedback about the new SIMS Teacher App – I hope the following updates are of use Vikpaw We’ve designed the Teacher app to be context aware - so it automatically knows which class the teacher is taking and opens the class list ready to access and update – all in real-time howartp The SIMS Teacher app allows teachers to access using either a Google, Office 365 or Microsoft (previously Windows Live) account for authentication and as their username/password. We’ve chosen this approach as many teachers will already have one of these accounts and helps with not having to remember different usernames and passwords. We’ve also received a lot of feedback from schools that the ability to support two-factor authentication for Google and Microsoft identities is a big plus. TheScarfedOne is correct with the authentication – when teachers complete their one-off activation, they associate their Google, O365 or Microsoft account with their SIMS Teacher app access account. Teachers then use their chosen identity username and password to access the app from then on. Marshall_IT We are currently working with number of customers who are part of our early adopter programme as we prepare for full availability in early 2015. If would like to be one of the first to use the app I can ask one of the team to contact you and provide more information if this would help? Kind regards Nick

Sims Lesson Monitor not allowing staff to take registers
Nickfinn replied to noah's topic in MIS Systems
Hi Noah, Can the teachers see the timeline on the homepage? Regarding the permissions do you use the Class Teacher permission provided by Capita or have you created your own version of the Class Teacher permission. Kind regards Nick
