I didnt expect to enjoy it but I did! It had some tense moments, and if you ignore the plot holes, the storyline is good too. Listening to Gerard Butler, Gary Oldman et al doing US accents quite amusing too...

We really enjoyed this, far more than expected. Yes it’s a bit far fetched but good fun and worth a watch.

Venom

 

It was a decent cinematic experience...

... it was just a terrible Venom movie.

 

The film darts from plot-point to plot-point without ever really fulfilling any of them, and injects humour into weird places that, whilst it works and does deliver as funny, just feels out of place. That being said it's cinematically brilliant, the effects are great (for the most part, let's not talk about the crappy high-frequency-sound-shifting-effect), and the film is well-paced.

If only it were named 'Generic alien parasites give hosts superhuman abilities and have a fight' I'd rate it higher than it being called 'Venom'.

The Hate U Give

Liked this too. Moving to a degree, although I didn't think that it successfully made a point, if that point was that black people are treated worse by police.

Of course you're going to treat someone who looks and acts like a gang member differently to someone who looks "square" to use a 60s expression. You shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, and of course always err on the side of caution in a threatening situation.

Maybe you could shoot to disable first rather than shoot to kill. The ludicrousy of public gun ownership doesn't help.

Taraji P. Henson stars as Mary, an enforcer/hitwoman for a crime syndicate, who decides to take a young boy she orphaned into her protection. Unfortunately her attempt to free the boy from the clutches of a member of a rival gang spark a war.

 

Not as much of an action movie as the trailer suggests, but a pleasant enough hour and a half.

Low-key indie rom-com starring Cristin Miloti, best known as the tragically short-lived (How I Met Your) Mother. (I'm still mad about that ending). Sorta fun, but unless you really want to see it based on the trailer, probably not one to rush to rent.

Clara and her family are about to spend their first Christmas without her mother, who has recently passed away. Her mother left instructions that the children are to be given presents from her on Christmas Eve, and Clara's is a Fabergé-style egg - but it is missing the key to unlock it. Her quest for the key will take her to the Four Realms, where she must take up her mother's legacy and put right a great wrong.

 

Taking music from the ballet and elements from the original story and the ballet, this is a charming family film. The production design might be a bit too colourful for some, and the acting from "The Nutcracker" is a bit "stage school" (and some of the "upper-class English" accents occasionally drop to "Laaahdaan") but otherwise pretty good. Enjoyed by all at Château LeMarchand, though I can see that it might go down better with girls (I was the only male in the cinema), but if you enjoy stuff like "A Little Princess", "The Secret Garden" or the "Narnia" films, you should enjoy this.

 

 

For some reason this seems to have attracted the wrath of the Incel and/or Russian troll army/armies; it's really not the travesty that a lot of online reviews seem to suggest, though if you're a ballet purist you may be disappointed.

Fell asleep near the beginning (had had a loooong drive), but once I had been prodded awake managed to watch the rest. Cheesy and a little cheap looking, it's slightly above a Hallmark movie, but probably fun for the little 'uns.

The Best Years Of Our Lives, made 2 years after WW2 ended, about men returning home after the war. Interesting as a historical artefact, didn't think it was brilliant as a film.

A great watch. Kinda film noir - saw somewhere refer to it as "neo-noir". Slow moving, but twisty and quirky. Simon Pegg, Margot Robbie and Mike Myers are the big names in it.

 

Well worth a watch - its on Amazon Prime Video at the moment.

We watched this on Saturday night, was a fun film.. nicely adult without going OTT.

I have seen Teen Titans Go! To The Movies about 8 times since the weekend after getting it for little 'un. My head is filled with a relentless parade of the songs in the film (

! ) and I can probably quote half the film back at you already.

 

And yet... I kinda like it. It's surprisingly funny, and has a lot of references for adults and nerds. It's honestly worth a watch.

 

Also watched Geostorm starring Gerard Butler at the weekend and that film is everything you'd expect from that title/actor combo. It exceeded my cheese expectations tbh, and may have surpassed The Core as my favourite complete-scientific-bobbins-but-strangely-compelling-and-satisfying-sci-fi film. The sheer delirious nonsense in having a countdown to a GEOSTORM, the point at which there is too much energy in the climate system from the satellite network and it all tips over into a permanent and destructive storm that will shatter humanity... but if you shut the satellites down with 3 seconds left, the 99.9997% of energy you'd already pumped in just dissipates and everything is alright, actually, all the flood water literally just drains away and the sun comes out and a bird probably sings somewhere. I have to admire the sheer brass balls it takes to spend millions of dollars employing hundreds of people for months on end to create something so nonsensical.
