When they walk they look like (and reminded me of!) a toy robot that I used to have which was basically two legs on a disc, and it could walk up glass using the suckers on it's legs. Splash last night. Such a good soundtrack on a decent sound system. The immersion when they went underwater was superb.

Unfortunately the publicity has blunted the impact of the end somewhat. If you don't already know the ending and are interested get to the cinema before it's spoiled for you. 1
korifugi Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 (edited) Alita: Battle Angel (even though I know the whole thing as Battle Angel Alita - but I think it's important to separate it from the manga, see why below) Now first - I'm going to state I've read ALL of the manga for this, so I was curious how much of it they'd do (as there's no way in hell you'd fit it all in). It was a good film - not great. There's some fairly significant changes from the original source material that I don't think help the story much, but ignoring these helps (lets face it, there's always changes from the original in anything like this!). I feel I'd have enjoyed this more had I not read the manga, but that may just be me being a bit of a purist git. Edited February 7, 2019 by korifugi

A very gentle comedy, but a pleasant enough way to pass a couple of hours. Loses points for some truly awful Photoshop work to create pictures of the actresses together in their younger years and Diane Keaton's wardrobe, which seemed to consist the sort of thing she wore back in the "Annie Hall" days.

I was utterly exhausted, and have to confess to fighting off sleep at stages, plus I wasn't really in the best frame of mind as I think I'd normally have loved the film - so all I can say about it for certain is that it's beautifully shot.

phreak Posted February 11, 2019 Posted February 11, 2019 Finally got around this weekend to watching Deadpool 2 and happy to say that it was everything I was hoping and expecting. Fast paced, funny, rude and gory. Deadpool is definitely one of my more favourite superheroes going these days.
Garacesh Posted February 11, 2019 Posted February 11, 2019 Was round at a friends' place Saturday, him and his partner are having a bit of an accidental Bruce Willis binge, so we watched Moonrise Kingdom. It's certainly not the kind of film I'd have chosen to watch, I can't say I'm a huge fan of coming-of-age films, but it was entertaining at least, if not a bit awkward at some parts. A handful of moments did make me laugh out loud, though I'm not particularly sure they were actually meant to be funny.

Anything with Samuel Jackson and Bruce Willis had to be a hit for me... not a full screen tho sadly. Alita - obviously benefited from an advertising campaign. Every viewing absolutely packed. Technically brilliant and not a bad story at all. 2 top class movies. Thoroughly enjoyed.

This was a lot of fun, and surprisingly on the nose politically, but probably not a cinema trip unless you're taking kids of a suitable age/disposition to whom it could well be their new favourite film ever. Hard Target 2 Follow up to the 1993 John Woo/Jean Claude Van Damme actioner. This takes the basic premise, Lance Henriksen's gun and some random doves, transporting the lot to Myanmar. Disgraced MMA fighter Scott Adkins discovers that his big purse fight is in fact a hunt, and he's the prey. It will come as no surprise that this was pretty poor. Thailand stands in for Myanmar and the lead actress is Australian/Vietnamese (guess that explains her accent. On the plus side, some of the fights look suitably brutal and the pretty native lady doesn't immediately fall in lurve with the male lead (and takes out more of the hunters than he does). Felt a bit sorry for Rhona Mitra as I can't imagine that skin tight leather was much fun in the jungle.

MkII Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 INSTANT FAMILY US tear jerker as my dad would have said. I like an emotional romp so this was good. COLD PURSUIT Got to love Liam Neeson. Nice it was a seemingly ordinary hero. Comical death tally. Quirky but enjoyable.

A little dark for some of the younger kids however. Whoever decided to do an animated release needs a medal IMO. It was so colourful, the action more brutal, and the little bits of on-screen comic text were brilliant!

(Any excuse to plug The Magicians - though admittedly High King Margo is the only non-Caucasian one). Really? I think you might find that many African and Arab countries past and present have Kings, and I don't think they are usually white ones! Stereotyping!
