Bit busy, we're

- Fitting 3 SMART E70s

- Wiring an IT Room

- Imaging 95 Toshiba Encores

- Setting up 14 iPads

- Faffing with the wireless

Lose the ICT suite. Gain a smaller room with a horrible window looking into two classrooms. Lose 19 computers and a fraction of my workload. Cry myself to sleep. Data entry. Make tea. Find summer job.

Replacing legacy computers

Move computers to new rooms

Have a large computer room slipt in two

Go through laptop trolleys

Make new users

Clean server room and store rooms

Install new software

Move staff offices

That's the list so far.

Mine was to replace every remaining PC's HDD with SSD, but we've started early. Otherwise it'll be pretty quiet - some server upgrades and retirements, clear our office for redecoration/carpet/new cabling. Should be good.

Find a new job.

Ben

on a more serious note the main thing is to move from server 2003 to 2012 and ranger 8

along with the usual smart board installs etc.

possibly rejig the network addressing/wireless

Installing new PC's and laptops.

wiping and rebuilding our Mac server.

Moving, re cabling and setting up two IT classes.

Finishing adding all of the support staff to next years timetable.

possibly having 20 new projectors and smartboards installed.

creating all of the new user accounts for next year.

backing up and removing all of the old staff and pupil accounts.

And they wonder why I want my technician for three weeks instead of two, I do actually want to take a holiday in the summer you now.

First three weeks of the summer holidays off.

Cambridge Folk Festival, end of July. Recover/detox from that, planning a weekend just across the Channel somewhere to stock up on cheap baccy. Someone I know has half persuaded me to join a battle re-enactment society, so I might go for that. Otherwise, out for top-down drives wherever the fancy takes me. East Anglia coast is always nice.

Work-wise.....nothing.....no money.

  • Recable cabs as they have got messy over the year after lots of messing about in them
  • Work with ISP to config router and implement VPN
  • Extend suite, complete with new wiring
  • Refresh website
  • Work with Deputy to plan programming for KS1 for next year and plan training program for staff
  • Sort out low amount of free space on file server
  • Install replacement CCTV cams
  • Update to last free version of SMART
  • Look into why logon times have increased recently

Hmmm perhaps I have planned too much :S

Replace 20-25 of the oldest teacher PCs around the school

Replacing spinning disks in the rest with SSDs

Upgrading our only remaining IT room on spinning disks to SSDs

update HAP to v10

Reducing our domain controllers count (We have 10, very excessive, dates back to when we had a DC per building physically)

Shutting everything down to test and repair our generator

Reimaging 6th form laptops

9 new laptops for science staff + docking stations as they're one of two departments that like to use their laptops in the classroom instead of the desktop provided

Screwing a bunch of monitors to the desks where they aren't already

Consolidating 3 VMs down to one (Basic roles that don't need separate VMs anymore)

Upgrade what will be the remaining two or three DCs to 2012R2

New website from e4education being finished in the summer, so we'll no doubt have some work there

From then on it's clearout old junk, clean monitors and projectors, organise some data and update some documentation. A relatively quiet summer this year compared to past years really.
