All the money was spent on the new building that we had to kit out in the rush of May half-term, so there's no money to spend on kit to do anything big over the six weeks. There's a few PCs to move about, a bit of VLANning and network cabling, but by and large we'll probably be "stress testing the AV installations" by watching BluRay rips of ST:TNG.

It's huge and fluorescent, you shouldn't have been able to hit it! Not much on the agenda for me, this summer. I'm only doing a week. Hoorah! Build, wire-in and image new machines. Rejig current PC suites and laptop sets. Inventory all the things.

It hurts inside! You all need to understand that the skip jumped out at me, it was hiding behind a bush and then suddenly POW right in the kisser this was not my fault, none believes me. Why won't anyone believe that these yellow beasts are actually from out of space waiting for the right time to transform into Optimus Prime and ruin the Human Race! Only half way through the year here so we only have two weeks to expunge the last few Windows 7 installs and put 8 in its place along with a bunch of 2012 r2 installs.
SiliconAlley_Sam Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 I'm going to be at work hoping desperately that our schools have lots of budget left over and that at least some of our NM's are in school for at least some of the holiday and with budget left to spend to keep me busy! Might be asking for too much there... Jam packed weekends in July though - choosing all the extras we want for the flat, McBusted, Eminem, Amsterdam, York Races... going to be a good one. Obviously dramatically improved by a flood of quote requests and orders, of course. Hint. Hint.
localzuk Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Would be nice to have 6 weeks of *nearly* no users! It balances out usually via the type of equipment and funding available though. Those organisations that have people in 365 days a year get to do things like schedule downtime during normal hours or have overtime to do stuff overnight/over weekends. Most schools don't generally allow either of these in my experience. So, we have to make do with scheduling all works during the summer or Easter holidays etc... Its getting more and more difficult though, as more and more summer schools and the like are appearing, meaning things have to be working then too, meaning maintenance is very difficult to arrange. 1

Development plan for Backend platform upgrades from various to 2012R2 4. Possible Zimbra upgrade dependant on which Ubuntu platform is required 5. Update all run engine packages 6. Re-Documentation of Network 7. Upgrade IE9 to IE11 8. Clean all Staff and User profiles 9. Various software packages to build, Cubase, Wordshark etc 10. General clean and cable tidy of whole school 11. Build SCCM on 2012R2 platform for the delivery of endpoint 12. Any other requests from Staff Summer school is in throughout the summer hols using the network and wireless systems plus Teaching staff will wander in and out as they wish with the requirements of using the network! Logistical nightmare! Windows of opportunities

Okay, maybe more yellow - but you still couldn't miss it usual. Total site reimage, replacing machine in one ict suite, sorting out the exams panic, upgrading SIMS, and maybe getting a week off. Oh, and we're completely rewriting our OU structure and GPO's - just for kicks!
TechMonkey Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 @X-13 ? Slow year as everything we needed to do was kyboshed. So it will be tidying, pruning, documenting and getting ready for new year. Biggest job is new image and new GPO's/AD structure for everyone. A couple of new e70 boards to install.

clareq Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Turning off CC4 and moving to our new Vanilla network I've been preparing since Easter. We'll need to reimage 1500 computers, as well as moving all services across to the new domain, all the while ensuring the office staff can continue working.

jamesfed Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 One day of downtime scheduled while we do various things to the network interfaces of our virtual hosts - in reality as it'll be a staged migration we shouldn't have any downtime of services (just a host for a few minutes). Mashing out the latest version of App-V will be the big project which comes along with a reimage of all PCs - SCCM is going to be helping big time there and hopefully we won't need to touch 90% of PCs. After that its our 'making better use of data' project - going to be using Visual Studio Light switch and SSIS to automate various tasks which are currently done manually.
