steves22 Posted May 27, 2014 Author Posted May 27, 2014 Thanks for your reply. Would you mind if I ask what the project management is that you mentioned -is this IT support related? 1
visioN Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 @DaveP mentioned Project Management - I'm guessing that it will be IT/Network related. Such as infrastructure upgrades, software roll outs and etc. I would say most IT Support staff do Project Management to a certain extent without even realising as you just do it automatically. Just upgrading PCs to SSDs from HDDs will require some PM. Specing the SSDs (size, speed), budget constraint, time management, no down time - not affecting teaching etc. You might not right a project plan / brief but you will have a good think about it. My work put me on PRINCE2 which was useful.

Such as infrastructure upgrades, software roll outs and etc... When he is fulfilling his role as Project Manager it is not IT related at all. There is some history as to how this came about but it comes down to the fact that before he had his role in Network Support he was part of the Site Support Team. He was looking for a move and I felt that he would be useful in my team. This move was accepted provided he would be available to assist The Site Support Team from time-to-time. This commitment has grown into his current split role as Project Manager. HTH.

Numerous iPads, laptops etc. We currently have full time team of NM, Snr tech (Me), IT Tech and a 12 months Uni placement IT Tech (which we replace each year). We also have a Term-time and a bit digital arts manager who does all the website, looks after the macs and does all the promotional stuff as well as lots of other things. RichCowell Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 We are a comp with about 1200 pupils with 1nm and 2 technicians -all part time and term time only. I am trying to make a case to have one of these full time but having a hard time. How many techs do other schools employ and are they part or full time? I'm building up stats based on members of the ANME of exactly things like this, all in nice pie charts or tables - all made available to the members... feel free to join to be included and see the stats we've built up so far... win Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Sorry for going slightly off topic but couldn't help noticing the number of lone IT guys. Do you also do MIS support? I can't see how you'd cope - especially: 1000+ Students 120 staff and there is just me at the moment. I am only 18, I am doing an apprenticeship yet i am on my own. 900 secondary kids, 60 primary kids 600 laptops for kids 100 laptops for staff, 100 iMacs 300 desktop, 130 staff, just me at the end of my tether, fingers crossed recruiting another tech soon
localzuk Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Sorry for going slightly off topic but couldn't help noticing the number of lone IT guys. Do you also do MIS support? I can't see how you'd cope - especially: I make sure the server is up, but beyond that support is handled by the LEA SIMS team. Actual getting data out is done by specific people with specific roles in the admin team.
