I concur with most of what @Steve21 says. I’m hoping that when themes become available some of this will be negated. On the mobile “view” all of the menu collapses behind the burger menu in the top right corner so it’s a bit of a faff to navigate as if you pin the app in iOS and then run it, it launches full screen so you loose the ability to use the back button in the browser. One thing that was handy with the app was the menus being at the top of the screen. I found it so much easier to navigate, especially to view new content that I’d maybe missed. I due find the new Streams to be a bit hit and miss on whether it shows me all unread content, I seem to see more unread threads on the desktop version than I do on the mobile view. Unless that’s just me?

One thing I've noticed is the breadcrumb menus don't seem to function how I'd anticipate. So if I go to What's New > Subscribed Content and then click on one of the unread items e.g. Cool things thread the menu option is to then to go back to home forum e.g. Behind Red Door rather than back to Subscribed Content. Maybe I've just got too used to the app, but a back button to go back to that would be good, otherwise it's a bit of a faff to keep opening the main menu and navigating back to the Subscribed Content 'stream' each time you've read the update to the Subscribed thread. Or have I missed something... 🤷‍♂️

Great work on the migration, just wondering if the EduGeek app is going to be available again in the future? I mainly used that on my phone as I found it a lot easier to navigate and as it was set to dark mode, found it a lot easier on the eyes.

I’m assuming that you have attached the VMDK to your VM, can see the disk in Windows, and you want to “bring it online”? You should be able to right click on the drive in the Windows Disk Management utility and Initialise it from there. Once it’s initialised you can then right click and create new volume and follow the wizard as normal.

One other thing, does the server have direct internet access or are you behind a proxy/firewall?

Not that long usually. Did you stop the wuauserv service first before running the update? I presume you’ve checked to make sure the disks not low on space? Have you tried repairing the windows update issue using dism? (See https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-server/deployment/fix-windows-update-errors) Have you done an sfc /scannow to check for OS corruption?

WSUS won’t help with this problem. Whilst WSUS is great for managing updates across your server and PC estate, it still relies on the machines windows update services to install the patches, so if that’s goosed then you’ll just get an error. Have you tried stopping the wuauserv and BITS services, renaming the softwaredistribution folder, and then restarting the services and installing the patch? The other option is to stop the service and then try the patch as it won’t then try and check for previously installed updates before installing.

Go to the Microsoft Update catalog and search for the KB top right corner. Click the download button on the right of the required update and download the update to your computer. Copy it to a memory stick or network drive and run it on the server. It might take awhile to install so you’ll need to be patient.

You can download them from the HPE website. Assuming your servers in warranty put the serial number in on the support site and it’ll provide the links to the latest drivers, firmware and SPPs etc. You can only download the SPPs if you’ve got a valid support agreement with HPE though, so if it’s out of warranty then you’ll need to buy the warranty first.

Have you got any remote control software? In a previous workplace, we used AB Tutor to kick people out of SIMS, and then we applied a temp policy to block the launch of SIMS.exe whilst we backed up and patched etc. (Which we removed afterwards). You’ll find it’s the usual suspects, despite being pre-warned several times to log out of SIMS at 4PM on a Friday!

Can you get into Task Manager? File > New Task > explorer.exe Had that one before where explorer was hanging and not starting up, once launched via TM it worked fine. I would recommend an upgrade to Server 2019 as and when, it’s much better and doesn’t have the stupidly long windows update bug!

+1 for Lightspeed. Not used Smoothwall but used Netsweeper as part of LA connection and it was terrible!

Ok. That was a quick Google search. I haven’t used Lightspeed for a few years, but you could try this: Uninstall Follow either of the processes below to remove the User Agent. Option 1: GUID Open Add or Remove Programs Click Remove next to Lightspeed Systems User Agent Select Yes to confirm removal. Click Yes to complete the uninstall. Option 2: Command Line Run MSIEXEC /uninstall UserAgent(x86 or x64).msi with /passive or /quiet Requires the UserAgent(x86 or x64).msi to be in the same directory. I use the Sophos Home Premium paid version. I had the free one, but they had an offer on last year (20% off I think) and as you can install on 10 devices it works out cheap per device. I’ve installed on all my PCs and a couple of family ones that I “look after when it goes wrong”. Been rock solid, and it seems pretty lightweight too as it use Sophos cloud to do the Intercept X stuff. The only gripe is that you can only make changes online via the web console, so end users can’t make any changes, only the account holder can.
