Projector Remotes

So like most people I imagine, our teachers keep losing the remotes for their projectors.

 

Hitachi do a good 'teacher remote' just a little one with on/off and other basic things on it - but I can only find replacements at Hills for about £20 something.

 

I need some remotes for NEC projectors as well though - does anyone know if any remote will do as long as it's the correct brand? Any idea where I can get one? This particular projector is a NP216G.

Pretty sure it's got be the specific one. they are usually about £60-£80.

Oh yes I recognise "the remote has gone missing" game.

 

It soon stops when I tell them I will not replace them, its a departmental responsibility and Im quite willing to do the order form which will be billed to them.

 

For a genuine loss I do sometime have a few spares in from old projectors that have been withdrawn, but they dont need to know that

We got genuine Epson ones for £5 from misco. Search results for epson remote - Misco.co.uk

I guess it depends on the model.

Wallis UK - Specialist distributor of Remote Controls, Replacements and LCD/Plasma TV supports. have always been able to supply working compatibles for mine, considerably cheaper than the originals and in the case of the Sanyo ones I've replaced, they actually work better.

We have two InFocus X20 projectors, which have a great design of only having the controls on the remote! The only button on the projector is the power button. As one remote was 'misplaced' we have to use the one for both of them now. Considering the original cost of the projector (not much) and the cost of a replacement remote, we just keep it as a spare for emergencies.

 

With some projectors (such as the above) some places seem to say they have replacements that work and others say you cannot get replacements for them!

not directly related to the remote replacements, But have you thought about tethering them to somewhere in the room so they can't go walking?

A bit cheaper than at NEC - plus NEC said they only take credit card payments which we are unable to do.

 

The Wallis website is out of date (I called and was told this) and, although not listed on their website, the remote I need was in stock. So fab!

The amount of time I hear teachers have lost the (Hitachi UST teacher remote) is Unreal - Im glad to found the right one.. Thanks @Angrytechnician!

In one school I worked in we used to buy Logitech Harmony remotes. We found that there were a lot of profiles already available for various projector makes and models.

They are not the cheapest but are a bigger remote and are less likely to be lost.

We've always bought compatibles to replace lost remotes and have always bought through @CPLTD

 

We use something called a remoguard (link below)

Which we lock the remotes into and we don't lose them anymore :-)

Nice idea, but many of the credit card sized remotes (such as the junk Optoma have started shipping) will fit right through those holes

The smallest ones we have are for the Casio lampless projectors, they don't get through as we found out when we lost the key for the guard!! Had to cut the lock off with bolt cutters :-(

Epson have been pretty consistent with their remote controls. We have a broad age range of projectors, mostly Epson, and an 8 year old remotes can still work the brand new ones. You do not need the exact model's remote.

There are lots on ebay!!

Last time a teacher told me she had lost her remote whilst looking expectantly at me with her hand out - I gave her a metre rule and told her to use that to turn the projector on and off.

She wasn't pleased

I drilled a hole in the back of remotes and chained them to the white board in one place.

 

Alternatively if you have the same projectors in every room take every remote back in and make teachers sign for them. When lost bill them, when they complain and go to SLT find your Councils equipment care policy and demand that it be adhered to otherwise you will consult your councils whistle-blowers policy. I don't think you would make many friends and you might paint a target on your back though lol.
