Only a few weeks, and still got a list of jobs as long as my arm to do.

 

Am starting to think I won't get everything done, got a week off next week and other techie has been off for last week and this week.

 

How is everyone else getting on?

There were 32 items on my list, and I had no real expectation of doing them all. There are some things that I have prioritised, but there's other stuff that can be done anytime that I will leave.

We are also very behind. I have been trying to update lots of station/laptop images with new software and Windows updates. However our connection to the Internet and to the local network has been unreliable. Longest outage so far: 4.5 hours. There is a lot of work still to do. I don't think I will finish before the new term starts.

We should just about get all the stuff on our list done - if no more staff come in and bother us!

 

Keeping a list of staff who've contacted us these holidays - running at about 30 so far

I am desperatly waiting for contractors to finish, (and i am more worried about this then the NM) then we have to deplot 30pcs(already image) to the new 6th form study area, 8 new pcs to put in to these lovely teacher desks with flip lids (takes about an hour a PC)

 

We are moving the servers, they are finally getting out of my office, 10 of them are enough around us.

 

Then the checks of all the PCs, but i have successfully (under my SIMs system manager hat) done the full progression, done by last friday, and we have deployed 60 news PCs to replace 60 3yr old ones under the upgrade program.

 

It's a pain these contractors

If these desks are like the ones we had I would watch them really closely. I know you said that they are teacher’s desks, but unless they are in a teacher only area [staffroom etc] the students may like to pull pranks like closing the lids on the keyboards deliberately to break the desk mechanism, or closed the lid on the mouse/keyboard cable in an attempt to sever the said cable…

 

I could go on, but I don’t want to give ideas to students reading these posts: Ideas that may not have occurred to them already.

No where near finished, piles of old computers, no new ones yet, lots to do and holiday still to take

We consolodated two domains down to one so now have some 600 machines to re-image and make sure are on the new domain.... (for the greater good)

 

Some 85 new Dell laptops (3 additional trolleys and 40 staff laptops) have been delayed until the 3rd September Then they have to be sent off to be branded (laptop lids painted) - lead time 4 weeks.

So no laptops till October!

 

16 smartboards to be installed - which havent been started yet...

85 network points to be instaled - started this week.

1 computer room fully refurb - only just had new carpet laid.

2 computer rooms to be refurbed - not even started - not even bought new kit yet....

SIMS mobile registration to get working on 8 pda and get wireless in place - have the 8 pdas but no wireless aps or sims software yet.

 

 

So all in all - starting to worry a little

We're still working hard - deployed DiskNet Pro, AVG AV on everything, Smoothwall Corporate, Backup Exec 11 - but still having probs with that, rebuilt 7 of the servers and are half way through deploying the latest builds to all the 450 PCs. And this is our quiet time of year - Sheesh!

I know exactly what you mean, there is one in every classrooms, except our kids have gone to the point of putting the mouse on the keyboard to break monitors but now they get charged double the price so it has calmed down a bit

when we started the summer it seems like we would have loads of time to sort everything out, but what we needed to do in one week, has took us 3 weeks.

 

Got an email from a member of staff this morning asking if he can have his laptop back. We had told the staff that they can keep there laptops till next week and then we need them in for certain.

So for the full summer he left it here and now wants it. With there being no software yet sorted, he has no chance, it will be funny seeing his face tomorrow when i tell him.

 

Luckily i havnt had many staff in, i am off next week and i definately wont miss this place.

Things still not looking good here - way behind on what should have been a quiet summer - till some bright spark in SLT decided (in the last couple of weeks of term) that they wanted a new ICT suite, and then we find out that there are several moves on the go

 

All still sounded ok till my supplier got taken over and the new owners froze all their orders - so now we haven't got any of the kit or software needed finish the task by september

 

Supplier is now starting to send out the back orders but not arrived yet - one of those was for the network install for the new ICT Suite - not sure when thats happening now

 

this school couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery - i tell ya!

Stuff beyond my control like building work not yet completed I dont really care about since its not as if we could have done anything

 

But Ive still got all new user accounts to do, about 150 laptops to go round and change the wireless certificates on and 50 PC's still havent arrived

 

And Im only in 4 more days before the start of term

Done a server room move, just about done, that was until we turned on our curriculum fileserver on friday after 4 weeks on the floor and it refused to POST...

 

Should just about manage the 'must dos' rather than the 'would like to do'.

Well I'm off until the 31st. I was going to sit at home and write some documentatiion up but the doc has told me in no uncertain terms to do that or any other work stuff or he is going to sign me off for at least 2 months come sept.
